TUESDAY EVENING BIBLE STUDY
“Living Fully, Dying Well” by United Methodist Bishop Rueben Job
Led by Pastor Keith and Joe Strickland
Tuesday evenings at 6:30 p.m. beginning February 10th
There is no way around it, we all are getting older. But have you ever wondered
if the Bible has anything to say about aging? Or, what does the Bible have to say
about living well until the day that we die? Or even, what does the Bible say
about dying? Well, this study will help us in making careful, wise and prayerful preparation for meeting life’s most
important moments. In this study, we will learn how to face openly and unafraid the benefits and limitations of aging and end of life decisions. Please join Pastor Keith and Joe Strickland Tuesday, February 10th at 6:30 p.m., as
they lead this study on a topic that is rarely discussed in the church.
" I think Living Fully, Dying Well is the best book on the combined subjects of living and dying that I have
ever seen. Usually these subjects are dealt with separately, but Rueben Job has the insight to know how integral the two are and he deals with the process of living, aging and dying as really one.” - Larry W. Sonner,
D.Min, retired United Methodist pastor.

Unfortunately Family Promise of White County will stop
accepting families as of January 31, 2015. While the congregational support has been strong, the organization
needs to take time to develop a sustainable and diversified
funding plan. This will hopefully be a short term hiatus.
There will be a community meeting on February 12, 2015, at the Cleveland Worship Center (near
Truett-McConnell college) at 6 p.m. All of you who have any interest in this program and
in helping the homeless families in this area are strongly urged to attend. They NEED community
support as well as support from the congregations.
Family Promise will continue fund raising efforts with a reverse raffle on March 12, 2015 at Unicoi
Lodge. The tickets will be $100 and will include dinner for 2. Please put this on your calendar as
not only a worthy but fun event. If you don't know what a reverse raffle is please ask Cheryl Page
or Scott Campbell.
Later in the spring there will be a fun mud run for all you adventurous folks. Plans will be announced soon.
Bill Pike has recently moved from Sautee to Green
Point Health Care, a nursing home in Union Point,
GA., which is near family.
Bill is no longer able to read, so please send notes or
cards to his son, John. The address is: Rev. John
Pike, 2841 Walker Church Road, Greensboro, GA
30642. Phone: 706-318-0447.

It’s the time of year when high school seniors are making plans for
furthering their education, making applications to colleges, and
seeking scholarship assistance, so we wanted to outline scholarship
assistance that is available here at Nacoochee.
Each year two $1,000 scholarships are awarded to graduating high
school seniors in good standing with their school and who have
been accepted at a college or technical school. Graduating Nacoochee UMC students are given first consideration.
All applicants must complete a Scholarship Request Form and include personal information such as
grade point average, proposed area of study, school where accepted, family income, special honors,
and employment history.
Applications are reviewed with school counselors, and applicants are interviewed before the selections
are made.
Since the greater number of applicants are White County residents attending White County High
School, application forms are available through the guidance office. Forms are also available in the
church office for those residing outside White County.
For more information, please call the church office (706) 878-3263.
If you want a life-changing trip, come with us to San Esteban, Honduras! Nacoochee
UMC and Cornelia UMC will be sponsoring individuals to travel May 30 until June 6,
2015 on a Honduras Outreach, Inc. short-term mission week. Honduras Outreach is a
Christ-centered, missionary-sending ministry working alongside people of developing
countries who desire to implement sustainable development partnerships.
We will fly to Tegucigalpa, Honduras from Atlanta on May 30, 2015 on a non-stop 3+ hour trip. Once we clear customs, we
are met by a local bi-lingual HOI staff member who will stay with us until we depart June 6.
Our home for the week is the beautiful Rancho el Paraiso located in the Agalta Valley in the department (state) of Olancho
(Northern Honduras). Each morning and evening (after a day's work) you will sit on the porch either in a rocker or hammock
and enjoy the beauty God created in the mountains surrounding the area.
We will be returning to the village of Cerro Chele where we served in 2014. It is a village that has a population (according to
the 2014 census) of 172 consisting of 38 families. It has a one room school with approximately 43 students (including kindergarten). There are some 32 homes and 1 church building.
We will assist the villagers with construction projects such as latrines, room additions and other needs which are determined
by the village leaders. Of course, vacation bible school is a highlight of the year for the village children.
The cost is approximately $1500 per person. The $750 land fee includes all meals (exception: lunch upon arrival in Honduras and departure day). and transportation while in Honduras. The cost of air fare is changing daily. Last week it was
$722.00, and today it is $772.00. We have paid as little as $408 and never over $668 in the past. Each team member is
responsible for making his/her own reservations; however, Alta Buckley and Sue Church are monitoring the pricing and will
keep anyone interested updated on fares.
There will be an informational meeting about the trip on February 22, 2015, at 4:30 in the fellowship hall. In the meantime, if
you have questions, you may contact Alta Buckley at 706-878-3041 or 706-769-0699 or Sue Church at 404-323-1724.
For the past year, the NUMC Legacy Ministry Endowment team has been training to
set up and implement an endowment program for our church. This program was completed in December and will provide funding for ministries within our church that are
not covered by the Annual Budget.
Most gifts made to the endowment are maintained in perpetuity and only the income
or earnings are available to support ministries. Some of the areas supported by the endowment are: capital improvements and unbudgeted property maintenance, missions, children, youth and worship ministries, scholarships, and cemetery maintenance. There is a part of the Fund that allows for non-endowed gifts. This would include our Building Fund and ALL portions of these gifts would be available for use when needed.
Gifts are tax deductible and can come from bequests from your will, stocks and bonds, insurance policies, cash
and real estate to just name a few areas.
Our team will be contacting church members individually to request a visit with you to present the Legacy Ministry Endowment program and ask for your support for the program. Your support will help provide for the future needs of Nacoochee for years to come. We hope you will consider being a part of this Legacy Ministry and
support it as you are able. Please contact: Paul Watkins (706-878-1057) if you have any questions.
Thanks, Paul
Watkins, Chairman. NUMC Legacy Ministry Endowment Fund
" Please prayerfully consider leaving a gift to our church in your trust or will."
A great deal of work has been done in the cemetery over the last few years, including
marking of slave graves and clearing of the that area, and the addition of the Remembrance Garden.
Wonderful volunteers have contributed countless hours to keeping the grounds up, but it
is also necessary to hire other upkeep on a regular basis during the growing season, and
that is a large expense. Also, as with any aging site, repairs are needed in the older sections of the cemetery.
Cemetery income is limited because so little burial space is left. We hope you will consider making a donation to the Cemetery Fund to assure that we can continue to maintain
this hallowed ground and honor those who have gone before us.
Donations can be made payable to Nacoochee UMC and identified by writing “cemetery”
on the memo line.
Thank you!

Winter Painting Party Planned
& You're Invited (Again!)
The trustees will be hosting a Winter Painting Party in the lower level of the
Education Building. The hallway and several rooms need a coat of fresh,
bright paint. We will start with the hall and "party on" into the rooms if time allows. (If your
Sunday School class is interested in a different color, please let us know, and we will see
what can be done.) A few rooms need a good cleaning and organization, too, so non-painters
are welcome!
We have a plan of action, and we have the paint. We just need worker bees and your painting tools. If you'd rather not paint, come lend a set of hands to help prep/wash walls, or move
furniture back in place.
When:
Saturday, February 28, 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.
Who:
Men, women, and youth
What to bring:
Paint rollers, brushes, roller paint pans, drop cloths, ladders,
step stools, rags, edgers... Basically whatever you might need
to paint walls! Non-painters should bring clean towels/
rags, wash bucket or whatever you need to clean drywall,
baseboards, or stairs.
