A Big “Irish Thank You” is extended to Peter Van Buskirk who will be on our campus Tuesday evening at 7:00 pm presenting “The Admissions Game!” All are welcome.
•
Hat’s off to the BMCHS National Honor Society whose members worked on
a service project last Tuesday, January 27 at Special
Care. Students helped clean recently acquired Disney
displays and the facility’s indoor play area in addition to
playing with children in their classrooms and outside.
Pictured are Brenna Gibson, Jennings Jarman, Hayden Crandall, Kieran Raj,
Hayden Bartlett, Garrett Pierce, Caitlin Grundy and Madison Dean. Others participating were
Addy Bell, Tillie Allen, Hannah Reen, Brock Smith, Braden Farris, Olivia Head, Ben Jones,
Hannah Williams, Lindsey Frogge and Jackie Gibson.

Congratulations to the Swim team for their performance last week at the Big 10 Conference
at Edmond Y in Mitch Park in Edmond. The Girls finished 4th while the Boys finished 3rd. Leading
the Girls were Gabby Dube placing 1st in the 200 Freestyle and 2nd in the 500 Yard Freestyle; the
Girls 400 Freestyle Relay nabbing 1st place (Head, Reen, Dube, Borders); Olivia Head with 2nd
place in the 50 Freestyle; Monica Borders in 2nd place in the 100 Butterfly. For the Boys, Chase
Skelton received 3rd in the 50 Freestyle, while the 400 Freestyle Relay team of Yokell, Hopkins,
Heinen and Fortin took home 3rd. The 200 Free Relay team captured 4th. Team members were
Hopkins, Reen, Crandall and Skelton. Next up for the Irish is regionals this weekend at Mitch
Park.

A big round of applause goes to the Irish Forensic Speech & Debate Team on their outstanding success this weekend at the 40th Annual
Monty Python Invitational held at Norman High School! The team finished
2nd in both the 5A and the Championship divisions gaining 7 new Regional Qualifications, and senior Allison Hopfer was awarded the National Speech & Debate Association high point trophy in the acting division
for outstanding performance. Additional team participants included: Canyen Ashworth, Bryan
Box, Isabella Curling, Shane Dolan, Carly Downey, Sheila Gaffney, Lilly Haave, Anne-Marie
Hagan, Madison Hart, Jack Jacobi, Juliette James, Hunter Lau, Morgan Lau, Lucas Litchfield, Cheyenne Martin, Kate McConnell, Anh Nguyen, Luke Ray, and Matthew Tran.

Clancy wishes to congratulate 1985 Bishop McGuinness graduate and 1981 Christ the King
graduate, Dana Brou Hill for being named the 2015 Christ the King Catholic School
“Distinguished Alumnus.” Dana’s husband Ron is also a BMCHS Class of 1985 alum as
well as daughter, Maddie who graduated in 2014. Son Austin is a freshman and daughter
Marlee is a junior.

Best of luck to our Academic team who will be competing in the State Academic Championship at Redlands Community College in El Reno on Saturday. Team members include Hayden
Bartlett, Connor Bannon, Nathan Blagg, John Kalk, Baron O’Connor, Lucas Litchfiled,
Caden Lockard, Chris Labarthe and Molly Ross. Coaches are Nicky Goff and Julie Anderson-Holt. If the team defeats Eisenhower in the first round, there is a good chance they will be

Congratulations to Jennings Jarman, Braden Roy and Chase Skelton for
being named to the Oklahoma Football Coaches Association Class 5A AllStar Team. Special congratulations to Chase Skelton for also being named
an Oklahoma Coaches Association All-State Football Player. Chase will
represent Bishop McGuinness in the All-State Game in July.

Congratulations to the 42 BMCHS students who were named as Oklahoma Academic
Scholars. Any senior with a 3.7 on the unweighted 4.0 scale, and at least a 27 Composite on the
ACT or 1220 (Critical Reading and Math) SAT through the April ACT National Test date, is a recognized scholar of Oklahoma. All scholars will be recognized at the Awards ceremony in April.

Hat’s Off to the Wrestling team for their performance last week at the Chickasha tournament. Brent Wilson placed 1st at 152 lbs and Zach Straughn placed 4th at 145
lbs. Special Congratulations to Brent Wilson who tied the McGuinness school
record for most career pins. Brent will have an opportunity to BREAK the all time
school record Tuesday night as the Irish host Casady for senior night. Come cheer
Brent and the team to victory!

Congratulations to Kyle Fitzgerald, Liam Kelley and Conor Maguire, members of Boy
Scout Troop 120 who recently received the rank of Eagle Scout.
•
Congratulations to all the young men who made their KAIROS retreat
last weekend. A “Big Thanks”
is extended to student leaders Coley Lee, Henry Novak,
Elbin Gonzalez, Dominic Perrault, Landon Strunk, John Kalk, and adult leaders Alex Genheimer, Joseph Welch and Peter McConnell for all their work
preparing for the retreat.

The Girls Kairos retreat is scheduled for February 26-29. Junior/senior girls can sign up
with Mrs. Phillips.
•
Congratulations to the Boys and Girls basketball teams for their performance last week.
The girls played well but lost two tough games against PC West and Del City. The boys fought
hard against the 6A #2 Patriots before losing, but they rebounded on Friday as they defeated Del
City 48-31. Both teams will be back in action on Saturday when they face Putnam City. Tip off for
the girls is at 3:30 pm and the boys at 5:00 pm. Both games will be held in the Pirate fieldhouse.

Congratulations to sophomore Kaitlin McAuley who recently received “All
Tournament Team,” honors from the “Battle of the Fort,” Ft. Smith Volleyball Tournament this past weekend as her Charge Nationals Club Volleyball team placed 3rd in
the tournament. Kaitlin is pictured with older sis, Brianna McAuley who graduated in
2013.

Happy Birthday to the following staff members who will celebrate birthdays this
week: Tony Pennington and Mandy Thomson.
Clancy Speaks:
The Cowboy Hall of Fame and Western Heritage Museum will be the site for the 29th
annual Bishop McGuinness auction. A Big Irish “Thank You” is extended to Auction Chairpersons Melanie Maguire and Lori Fitzgerald for their many hours of work preparing for
this year’s event. A special “Thank You” is also extended to Honorary Chairpersons Judy
Love and Barbara Brou for their support in helping make this year’s event so successful.
Proceeds from the event will be used to help support the schools work grant program and
help renovate one of our science labs. “Clancy Goes Country” promises to be the largest
and most successful auction since the school’s first event held in 1986. Chairpersons that
year were Mary Ann and Greg Edwards. I look forward to seeing you there. If you have not
made a reservation and would like to inquire about tickets, please call Linda Mares in the
Development office.
Finally, Peter Van Buskirk will be presenting the Admission Game to all interested 9th, 10th,
and 11th grade parents Tuesday evening February 3rd from 7:00-8:30 pm. Mr. Van Buskirk
will present the many obstacles that must be navigated when applying and seeking acceptance to a college or university of your choice. This is our annual required college night for
all junior parents and their student. Please try to arrive early because we are expecting a
large crowd.

The Homecoming Dance will be held in the BMCHS Commons area Saturday evening from
8:30 -11:00 pm. Dance bids will be on sale Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for $10.00
and Friday for $12.00. Crowning of the queen will be during halftime of the boys basketball
game on Tuesday, February 10th.
ACT Prep Workshop
Bishop McGuinness will provide ACT Prep for students who have taken or are planning to take the ACT this spring or summer. The after-school workshop of 2015 will
take place the week of February 2-5, from 3:00-5:00 pm. This workshop will be for
students who have taken the ACT previously and are interested in boosting their
scores through concentrated instruction and practice. Please see Mrs. Lyons in Room
23 or Dr. Worthington with any questions and information on signing up. Cost is $100.

The Peru Mission team will be selling his workbook before and after his presentation as a
fundraiser to help our missionaries pay for their trips. The workbook is titled Prepare, Compete,
Win! The Ultimate College Planning Workbook for Students, (formerly The College Planning
Workbook). The workbook is an interactive guide that provides contextual interpretations of the
college admission process, reflective exercises, calendars and to-do lists, and planning exercises that prepare students to compete for admission. This most recent edition, released in August
2014, is up-to-date regarding the overall student enrollment process, online applications and
financial aid.
The workbook sells for $20, and the Peru Mission will receive $5 for every book sale, so
