Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Dear Parishioners,
When we pause for a moment, we recognize that we are blessed. God has been good to us and we feel a
sense of satisfaction with how things are going for us. But when we take a little more time, we often
recognize that there is a deep longing for a fuller union with God. In our silence too, we often recognize a
darkness or dividedness deep within us that often keeps us from connecting with Him.
This darkness is more than an impure thought or the regret of being impatient with our spouse, or being
jealous or feeling slighted at work. While these offenses may and/or not point to something deeper, we
can often place too much focus on them because more often than not they are just part of the human condition. The darkness that I speak of is the deep down things, words and actions, as we learned as a child,
that keep us from really “knowing, loving and serving God.” Our work, our family and somtimes a sickness, either with a loved one or with ourselves, preoccupies our lives and thus keeps us from seeking Him.
Some of us also wait too long, until our deathbed to seek Him. Unfortunately at that moment we are often
so afraid or we're so sick we don't have the courage or plain old strength to enter fully the mystery.
In John's Gospel, we are invited to abide in the Lord. To rest in him. In the human face of Jesus, we find
the necessary “spirit” to relax and enjoy God. In the face of Jesus we connect to a God who is merciful
and forgiving. In his love, we are not taken out of the world but rather we are able to face our demons and
the ordinary struggles of human living, something that Jesus had to do too. In this union we become at
peace, we find union with the best part of ourselves and we find the strength and fortitude to bring others
together so that they be one with him.
Pope Francis reminds us: “God is our ally, faith in him is our strength and prayer is the expression of this
faith. Therefore Jesus assures us of the victory, but at the end he asks: “when the Son of man comes, will
he find faith on earth?” (Lk18:8). If faith is snuffed out, prayer is snuffed out, and we walk in the dark.
We become lost on the path of life.
Therefore, let us learn from the widow of the Gospel to pray always without growing weary...Pray always,
but not in order to convince the Lord. He knows our needs better than we do! Indeed persevering prayer is
the expression of faith in a God who calls us to fight with him every day and at every moment in order to
conquer evil with good. (Pope Francis, Angelis, October, 2013)
Finally, I bring your attention to one visit by Archbishop Blase Cupich to our parish. He will celebrate the
final “Welcome Mass” of his tour across the Archdiocese that began in early January, here for Vicariate II
at 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 12. This is open to all the faithful in our area. A reception will follow.
Please r.s.v.p. to the parish office.
Please come and personally welcome Archbishop Blase Cupich. More importantly join him in prayer for
the needs of the Archdiocese of Chicago. Pray that he may bring hope and welcome to those who feel excluded from God's gaze. May our Shepherd help all of us realize that God's grace comes to the worthy and
unworthy. In Christ we are one.
Peace,
Father Mike Meany

PERPETUAL
EUCHARISTIC
ADORATION
Christ's followers were
skeptical when He preached
the reality of His Body and
Blood as food and drink. St.
John said, "many of His disciples withdrew and no longer
went about with Him."
Seeing this, Jesus asked the Twelve, "Do
you also want to leave me?" Simon Peter did
not understand any more than those who left
Christ, but his loyalty was more firm. "Lord,"
he said, "to whom shall we go? You have
the words of eternal life."
We have the "Word of Eternal Life"
right here with us day and night in our
Adoration Chapel. Do you have something
you want to ask Him? There are several
hours needing adorers. Please pick one for
your personal hour with Him.

Please Support the 2015 Annual
Catholic Appeal
“Entrusted with Responsibility”
Please spend some time this week reflecting on the
Annual Catholic Appeal brochure that you received
with your bulletin. Please remember that the Annual
Catholic Appeal is much different than a one-time
special collection. It is a pledge campaign where
you can make a gift payable in installments.
As you review the work enabled by your contribution to the Annual Catholic Appeal, please reflect on
God’s gifts to you. He has given you all that you
have. With these gifts, you are entrusted with responsibility. Your gifts to our parish, to the Archdiocese and to the work of the Church throughout
the world should be given in gratitude for the continuing gifts that God gives you.
Each pledge makes a difference because all parishes
participate in the campaign and the gifts of many
enable our Archdiocese to deliver needed ministries
and services. Our combined gifts not only signify
our gratitude to God, they fund a significant portion
of the work of our Archdiocese.
After our parish goal is reached in cash, 100% of
any additional funds come back to our parish to help
to fund our needs.
Congratulations to the GALA raffle winner, If you received your pledge form in the mail, please

Christians, like all people of good

which are contrary to God's law. Each individual in fact

it. Abortion is evil.

because Jesus spoke with authority his reputation spread throughout the surrounding region of

we put our faith into actions by

Drodzy Parafianie,
Nasza praca, nasza rodzina i czasami
Jana, jesteśmy zaproszeni do przebywania z Panem. Aby w nim odpocząć. W ludzkiej twarzy
Jezusa, znajdujemy potrzebnego “ducha” do odpoczynku i cieszenia się bycia z Bogiem. W twarzy Jezusa
zgaszona i chodzimy w ciemności.
On zna nasze potrzeby lepiej od nas samych!
i w każdym momencie, aby zło dobrem zwyciężać. (Papież Franciszek, Modlitwa Anioł Pański, Październik,
2013)
zakończenie zjazdu konsekrowanych i zakonnych mężczyzn i kobiet. To będzie Msza Św o godzinie 5
wieczorem. Drugie, będzie on celebrował ostatnią „Mszę Powitalną” podczas jego objazdu po Archidiecezji,
które rozpoczęło się na początku stycznia. Msza Św. dla wikariatu II zostanie odprawiona o godzinie 7:00
wieczorem w czwartek, 12-go lutego.
Proszę przyjdźcie i osobiście powitajcie Arcybiskupa Błażeja Cupich. Ale przede wszystkim, pomódlcie się
razem z nim w intencji potrzeb Archidiecezji Chicago.
