Festival of Dance 2015
An international gathering of dance professionals in Guantánamo, Cuba
June 22nd to 28th 2015
Organized and hosted by Danza Libre Contemporary Dance Company, the Union of Writers and
Artists of Cuba (UNEAC), the Scenic Arts Council, and the University of Arts (ISA)

ATTENDEES: Professional dancers, students of dance, traditional Afro-Cuban
percussionists and their students, researchers, critics, plus those with a general
interest in dance and Afro-Cuban traditional music, are all invited and welcomed to
attend. This is an excellent opportunity to learn and perfect new dance and music
techniques, as well as to integrate these with existing skills.
SPECIAL EVENTS:
• Inaugural performance presented by Danza Libre Contemporary Company.
• Workshops and master classes given by distinguished Cuban and
international dance professionals and dance specialists.

PARTICIPATION CATEGORIES:There are three categories of participation
depending on what level the participants want to be involved.
PRINCIPAL PARTICIPATION
These individuals will be able to participate in all festival activities including all dance technique
classes and workshops (given by well-known maestros of dance), workshops with Afro-Cuban
percussion specialists, dance theory and composition workshops, and all panel discussions and
colloquiums. In addition, they will receive workshop credentials and a certificate of participation, as
well as some relevant cultural handouts.
NOTE:In order to limit class sizes and still offer maximum benefit to dance class participants, it is
requested that individuals limit their in-class participation to their level of expertise and fitness. All
levels of dance technique (beginning, intermediate, and advanced) will be offered during the festival.
SPECTATOR PARTICIPATION
These individuals will be able to observe dance classes and workshops that the dance and music
specialists conduct. They also will be able to attend the following: • Afro-Cuban traditional dance
and music workshop
• Cuban Dance History
• Panel Discussions
• Special Topics Colloquiums
• Dance Theory and Research
• Bartenieff Fundamentals
• Laban Movement Analysis
• Closing Gala Concert by Danza Libre & participants in the festival
ACCOMPANYING PARTICIPATION
These individuals will be able to participate in the activities of the event as indicated in the festival
program. Accompanying participants will also include a separate package of optional tourist activities.
Additional activities and post-program workshops, independent of the main festival program will also
be offered.
ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIES:
• Dance/Percussion Workshops (3 groups)
Group 1 - Professional dancer/musician or apprentices
Group 2 -Non-professional with experience of dance/percussion
Group 3 -Interested with a lower level of expertise
- A list of all festival activities will be provided at the time of registration.
NOTE: Dance critics, movement specialists, theorists, choreographers, and scholarly researchers
in dance culture, are welcomed to participate in all the practical activities as appropriate to their
individual specialty and expertise.
APPLICATION AND PARTICIPATION FEES:
• 80.00 CUC for workshop participants (€66EUE/$95USD/$94CAD)
• 60.00 CUC for spectatorparticipants (€50EUE/$75USD/$72CAD)
• 40.00 CUC for accompanying participants (€33EUE/$55USD/$46CAD)
NOTE: Currency exchange rates may vary.
NOTE:Payment must be made in cash at the time of arrival.A 50% discount is offered to university
students (with student ID or ID of any other specialized school.)
The organizing committee reserves the right to adjust application and participation fees according to the ability
of the applicant.

The hotel price includes room plus breakfast; they will also provide assistance such as reconfirmation
of flights.
LOCAL HOSTELS
At the time of arriving, a list of local hostels will be available to choose accommodation.
Estimated cost per day: $25 CUC (Cuban currency) per day per room.
