JANUARY 2015
Message from Karin:
Winter in the Columbia Basin - the high pressure ridges that bring us such beautiful flying
weather in the summer now hold the winter
moisture in and cloak us in fog and low
clouds. A good time for hangar flying and safety seminars.
The Flying Farmers are hosting an FAA Safety Seminar on
January 31st, at the Big Bend Community College aviation
complex on KMWH. Although not a formal Mid-Columbia
event, it is something to consider.

Kids' Aviation Day
No decision has been made on when the next Kids’ Aviation Day will
be held. Because the FAA has cutback on the materials they give out,
we may have to find another source the next time we hold the classes.
Science Day
Mary Cooke and Lynn Harbinson, along with a couple of instructors
from Bergstrom Aircraft worked at the Chief Joseph Junior High Science Fair demonstrating the science of flight.

Ladies:
We understand that as one of the most recognizable female-pilot organizations in the world, your members take their piloting skills very seriously. As
the largest regional air cargo carrier in the world, Ameriflight shares the
same passion for aviation, and offers numerous opportunities for your pilots
nationwide: from Seattle to Puerto Rico, and Buffalo to Burbank.
Airmarking
The Desert Aire airmarking will need to be changed, as it conflicts with
the International conference.
Announcements:
The fly-out to Cavanaugh Bay is cancelled due to a conflict with the
August air race. Our chapter will be helping with the air race.
The meeting was adjourned at 11:15. Brunch and a white elephant
gift exchange followed the meeting.

For commercial multi-engine pilots with less than 600 total hours, we may
have opportunities as a First Officer on a type-rated EMBRAER EMB-120 Brasilia.
Commercial multi-engine pilots with 900 total hours can participate in our
PA31 Upgrade program, assisting the PIC while gaining the necessary FAR
135.243(c) hours to become a Captain.
Commercial multi-engine pilots who meet FAR 135.243(c) requirements can
train as a Captain on one of our Piper PA31s or Beech 99s flying single-pilot
and building the all-important multi-engine PIC time.
As you progress in your service with Ameriflight, captain our type-rated
Beech 1900, Fairchild SA227 Metroliner, or EMBRAER EMB-120 Brasilia.
You’ll also have an opportunity to take advantage of our bridge agreement
with Allegiant Airlines. This means you will hone your skills as a low-time captain, and have the opportunity later to move onto a legacy air carrier without
years serving as a First Officer at a regional airline.
New Flight School at KCOE:
Latitude Aviation is now open for business with owner/operator/flight
instructor Jeff Fouche. He is also teaching a private pilot ground school
through North Idaho College, which begins Jan. 24. For more information, contact him at (208) 818-5547 or www.flylatitudeaviation.com .
Ameriflight offers great advantages, benefits, compensation, and opportunities for those skilled enough to handle the single-pilot Part 135 IFR environment.
We would be grateful if you would distribute this information to your members, or that this is included within any newsletter-type publications that The
Ninety-Nines distributes. We look forward to speaking with anyone that
might have an interest in employment opportunities at Ameriflight.

NEW YEAR’S DAY FLY-IN
REMINDER…
By Lynn Harbinson
Online northwest pilot groups,
pacificnorthwestflying.com and Facebook Group Flights above the Pacific Northwest (FATPNW), have a
tradition of New Year's Day Fly
Ins. In the years I have attempted to
participate, weather has been a limiting factor.
Your 2015 chapter dues* are due now
Please send your $10 to :

Pilot Safety Seminar
A fly in for east side pilots was
planned for 1/1/2014 for Desert
Aire. There was an inversion
with fog and participants were
unable to fly in. For 2015, the
weather relented and over 30
participants flew or drove in to
Desert Aire. Airport manager
Karl Gruber provided a warm car
ride to Tumbleweeds Restaurant.
The date for our annual Pilot Safety Seminar is Saturday, January 31, 2015.
The seminar will be held at Big Bend Community College Flight Training Center, Building 3000, on Grant County International Airport in Moses Lake. The
address for the building is: 7400 Andrews Street, Moses Lake, WA 98837.
The seminar is free. The seminar will qualify flying farmer pilots for the
ground school portion of the APT program. Pilots participating in the Wings
Program will receive 3 credits for attending this seminar. Pilots will receive
the email notification of the seminar and be able to register on-line,
www.faasafety.gov for the event.
Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. at BBCC. Refreshments will be available.
The seminar will begin at 10:00 a.m. and will go until 3:30 p.m. with a lunch
break at noon until 1:00 p.m.
My family and I flew from
Pasco and enjoyed meeting some
folks I had seen online. We kept
the restaurant busy. It was a
great way to start 2015. Happy
New Year!
You may bring a sack lunch or eat downtown.

In an effort to include pilots with children, the Southeast Section has started a "Mommy Pilot" Facebook
group. They have found that many members have
stopped participating in The 99s because they cannot find child care or have other issues related to
having children. We want them back. This is a closed
Facebook group so there is no fear of sharing issues
with the public. For information or to join the group,
contact Liz Poeppelman ([email protected])
or Meredith Holladay ([email protected]). The description for
the group is:

If you have scissors or special pens, bring them along.
Carol will provide spaghetti and Karin will bring bread.
We need someone to bring a large salad.

If you were planning a trip from Wenatchee,
WA to St. Petersburg, FL, your three-letter trip
identifier would be
EAT PIE
For Mommy Pilots by Mommy Pilots. (and those who support Mommy
Pilots!!) This group was formed to bring together a community of women pilots sometimes overlooked. We love our children and we love to
fly but sometimes those hurdles may seem too great to overcome.
Now you don't have to do it alone. This group is for sharing your stories and giving support and encouragement to other Mommy Pilots,
Mommy-To-Be Pilots, and Mommy-I-Plan-On-Starting-A-Family Pilots.
The administrators are members of the
Southeast Section. As a Section we have
decided to work to ensure that member and
non-member Mommy Pilots are not forgotten and feel more included in the aviatrix
world. So you don't have to be a 99! (Of
course we would love to have you join us!)
.
What other interesting combinations are there?
