Dear Mrs Sample <New Raffle Players>,
Play our Spring Raffle today and you’ll be bringing freedom and
independence to more disabled people like Kathleen and Graham.
There’s a fun way to bring freedom and independence to disabled people, just like Kathleen and her
husband Graham, by taking part in the Motability Spring Raffle.
Kathleen’s passion is her voluntary work as the secretary of the Elland Silver
Band and in particular working with the young members teaching them to play
in the band. But she is only able to do this thanks to Motability and people like
you who play our raffles. Kathleen has arthritis, a back condition and has had
both hips replaced. Her husband Graham is also disabled and they are no longer
able to work and could never afford a car of their own. They live in a hilly area
and Kathleen would never have managed to get to the band’s rehearsals, never
mind to performances further afield.
Kathleen approached Motability and we were able to help her with the Advance
Payment for a Citroën Berlingo plus the cost of a hoist to lift an electric wheelchair into the car, thanks to
the kind people who take part in our raffles which raise vital funds for our Charitable Grants.

Kathleen says, “My arthritis began in the 1990s
and I have had many years with ongoing severe
pain.” She approached Motability for help and
we arranged a Charitable Grant for the Advance
Payment for a Citroën Berlingo and a fitted
wheelchair hoist. Her car now has the space to
accommodate her husband’s wheelchair, a
scooter for her, as well as a walking frame.

Why does Motability run raffles and need
charitable donations?
Motability is a registered charity. The Motability Scheme enables disabled people to use their
government-funded mobility allowance to lease a car, powered wheelchair or scooter.
There are many people who need a more complex mobility solution to be able to join the
Motability Scheme, the costs for which may not be covered by their monthly mobility
allowance. In cases like these, Motability is often able to provide help with a Charitable Grant.

Motability’s Charitable Grants can be provided to meet the costs of:
• Advance Payments for larger vehicles (to carry a wheelchair or scooter, for example)
• Car adaptations (ranging from hand controls to a hoist to safely load a heavy wheelchair)
Driving lessons for disabled people (help is provided towards the cost of driving lessons in

or adapted vehicles with trained instructors).

Playing the Motability Spring Raffle is easy!
Just follow these five easy steps.
1. Please stick the attached address labels to the tickets you would
like to buy. If you’ve sold tickets to family and friends, please
complete their details on the ticket stubs.
2. Complete the payment slip overleaf. If you are paying by cheque,
please make it payable to ‘Motability’.
3. We are always grateful for any support of our raffles, but to keep
our costs to a minimum we will only write and acknowledge
receipt, if you tick the box on the front of the payment slip.
4. Return the ticket stubs and payment slip in the Freepost envelope
provided making sure we receive them by 26 March 2015.
5. Hurry! Attach your fast reply sticker to your reply envelope and
return by 20 February 2015 for a chance to win one of two
luxury hampers in our fast reply draw!

Kathleen’s real passion is her voluntary work
with a local silver band and she says, “Despite
the difficulties my disability brings, I try to live
life to the full as much as possible and I am so
pleased I can continue my hobby as secretary
of the Elland Silver Band especially working
with our young members it brings me great
pleasure. Having a car like this that meets my
needs makes life a lot easier.”
