EVOLUTIONARY CHRISTIANITY?
Rev. Dr. Dave Holmes
So often I hear people who think they must abandon Christianity because they
have encountered the scientific theory of evolution – and they think that this is
somehow incompatible with Christian belief. Well, I definitely do not think that
is the case. Neither do Michael Dowd and Connie Barlow, who have been travelling the countryside talking about what they call “Evolutionary Christianity.”
Michael Dowd has written a book entitled “Thank God for Evolution” which
is a fascinating marriage of evolutionary theory and Christian theology and
practice. I heard Michael speak at last year’s Epiphany Explorations event in
Victoria, and picked up some DVD’s while I was there.
So join us, if you are interested, and we’ll watch some videos and talk a bit, and
consider questions like these:
Is Christianity (and religion in general) evolving? Should it?
How do religion and science fit together? (We’ll look at Dowd’s fascinating
concept of “day” and “night” language, among other ideas)
How does evolutionary theory cast light on Christian concepts like “sin?”
Is the tension between science and religion a
problem? Or is it an exciting opportunity?
Come join us: four Wednesday evenings in February, in the Holy Grounds
(youth) room, 7-9pm. Wednesday Feb 4 , 11, 18, 25. The sessions will work best
together, but each one will also stand on its own.
HABITAT FOR HUMANITY

Do you know someone who is Missing Church?
Or perhaps someone who would just like a further
opportunity for worship and connection.
Please tell them about a later-in-the-morning, week-day
worship program called “Cross Connections”
Cross Connections is held on the First & Third Thursdays of each month. [The next two will be Feb 5 and 19]
Time: 11:30 am – 1:00 pm
a short traditional "mainline" style worship followed by an
informal potluck and conversation
Location: Lakeview United Church [wheelchair
accessible] at 3023 - 63 Ave SW
Cross Connections is an outreach of St. Andrew's United
Church Regional Ministries. It is intended to supplement, not replace, any regular church connection folks
may have. In fact, we'll help them stay in touch with their
home congregation.
Led by Rev. Dr. Rod Sykes 403-281-8487 or
