Dear Parishioners,
The following letter was sent to all school parents and was thought appropriate to be read by all members of our Quincy parishes. And since I am preparing to
go on a mini vacation this weekend, I decided to include this announcement instead
of my typical letter. It has some exciting news and challenges.
Dear Parents and Parishioners,
The exciting mission of keeping a Catholic elementary school education affordable for all who seek it is no small task. The Quincy Catholic Schools Leadership team, comprised of representatives from all five Quincy Catholic Schools,
would like to announce that we have once again been successful in moving closer to
that goal. The Leadership Team is very pleased to announce that there will be no
increase in tuition and fees for the 2015-2016 school year for the four Quincy Catholic elementary schools.
The cost of providing a Catholic elementary school education continues to
rise. However, our ability to refrain from increasing tuition and fees for the 20152016 school year would not have been possible without the efforts of thousands of
people, both parents and parishioners. On behalf of all of our QCES families, we
would like to thank everyone who made this possible.
Nothing is impossible with faith! What if next year we could announce a
decrease in tuition? What if the growth in stewardship in our four parishes could
make a Catholic elementary school education decreased or minimal expense for
parents? It has been achieved in other communities where stewardship has been
embraced, and it is attainable for our four Catholic parishes and elementary schools
as well.
We continue to invite each of you to become more involved in the life of
your parish and your parish school through stewardship. We are working to help
strengthen our parish elementary schools with the goals of strengthening our Catholic identity, achieving excellence in academics, increasing enrollment to capacity
and striving for financial sustainability.
Your help is needed to continue to make progress towards this mission.
Each parish has a stewardship program in place. Please accept the challenge to
commit more fully to your role as a parent and/or parishioner. Is 2015 the year that
you will spend more time helping, supporting and praying for our parish elementary
schools? Can you give more of your time, talent, and treasures? When you look at
the state of our country and our world today, can we afford NOT to make Catholic
education a priority.
Gratefully yours,
The Quincy Catholic Schools Leadership Team.

Fr. Leo’s column continued
I will be leaving this Sunday, Feb. 1st, and will
be returning to the parish on Monday, Feb. 9th for a little R & R. Some former parishioners have once again
invited me to be their guest in Florida. Please keep me
in your prayers as I will remember you in mine.
Next Sunday, Feb. 8th, we will be celebrating
Scout Sunday. Our Scouts will be present for the 8:00
a.m. Mass. We are very grateful to have a Boy Scout
troop and a Cub Scout pack. Scouting can teach many
life lessons and provide differing opportunities to grow
as a young person. I want to thank all our volunteers
who give of their time, talents, and treasures as they
lead our young people to serve God, their country, their
families, and their communities. The scout oath seems
to be for all times: “On my honor, I will do my best; to
do my duty to God and my country and to obey the
Scout Law; to help other people at all times; and to keep
myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally
straight.”
Not to rush the subject, but just a reminder that
Ash Wednesday is February 18th. It is hard to believe
that Lent is just 2 and 1/2 weeks away. I hope that you
begin to think about differing ways to grow in your relationship to God and His Church.
ON THE LIGHTER SIDE: A little boy at
school ran up to his teacher, sobbing bitterly. “What in
the world is the matter, Jimmy?” asked the teacher.
Jimmy answered, “I don’t like school. And I just found
out that I have to stay here until I’m 18.” “Don’t let
that worry you,” said the teacher, “I have to stay here
until I’m 65.”

Dear Gene Grawe Fund Supporters,
When I started the Gene Grawe Fund in 2005, it was originally to help the families of St. Anthony Parish to help them
pay for Catholic Education. The program was expanded in 2008 to all families who attended Catholic Education in Quincy including Blessed Sacrament, St. Dominic, St. Francis, St. Peter & Quincy Notre Dame Schools. I had no way of knowing how this fund
was going to expand. The only thing I can say is when you know that God’s hand is in on it anything is possible. God has truly
blessed this fund! Since the fund was started it has paid over $771,000 to help families pay for tuition!
Due to the continued growth of the program I am excited to say that we are going to have an office or as some call it a
“store”. Msgr. Enlow is graciously allowing the GGF to be at St. Peters church. Our office will be in the vesting room of the
church lobby or as members of St. Peters call it the Narthex. When you walk in the main doors of the lobby to the right there is
our office. I believe this is the perfect spot for the fund. It will be very convenient for everyone. We will be open 6 days a week.
I am asking that you be considerate of funerals, weddings & masses going on in the church. For this reason I ask that
you use the door to the right of the main doors as you are facing the church. This will not interfere with any services going on.
Also, you will find that right before school & after school it will be a little busy in the parking lot but this does not last long.
Starting February 9th this office will be the only selling spot for the GGF cards. We will no longer be selling in the school
offices, parish rectorys or after masses. I know some of you may think this will hurt the fund but I believe it will be great for the
program long term. Many people do not want to stop in the offices to bother the staff. The staff also get interrupted continually
& can’t get their work done. We will be available longer & you can stop by before work, lunch hour, after work or anytime. You
may also call with your order & we can have it available for you to pick up to make it quicker!
For those of you who have supported me & the fund the last 10 years THANK YOU! This could not have happened without all of the support of the priests, principals, assistant principals, secretary’s, & volunteers. But it also could not have happened without you. Thank you. I am asking that you continue to support the Gene Grawe Fund. If you have not purchased gift
cards before, stop by & see us. I would love to explain the program to you. It really is painless & won’t cost you a dime more
than you were already going to spend!
Hours of operation: Monday through Friday 7:30-5:00 with Thursdays until 7, Saturdays 9:00-1:00
