Dear Participants, Parents and Caregivers:
I hope this newsletter finds everyone rested from the holidays and filled with excitement for a new year. As we begin
the new year, we have great ideas and inspirations that help us formulate the resolutions we make. If your resolutions
are to exercise more, eat healthier and try to improve yourself overall, then come join us at Parks and Recreation. The
Parks & Recreation Adaptive Program Staff would like to invite new faces and families to join us. Come share the
experiences and the opportunities we offer through our programs year round.
This newsletter provides the schedule for our Monday through Friday programs offered as well as information pertinent to each program. The schedule is as follows: Monday we bowl at Arctic Bowl, 3:30-5:30 pm. Tuesday, we exercise and have Game Night at Mary Siah Recreation Center 2:30-5:00pm. Wednesday, we walk at the Big Dipper
4:30-5:30pm followed by Rec Night at Hunter Elementary School Gymnasium 6:00-7:30pm. Thursday, we have Art
4:30-6:00pm & swimming6:30-8:30pm at Mary Siah Recreation Center. Friday, we exercise 2:30-3:30pm at Mary
Siah Recreation Center followed by different cultural outings that are listed on page 2 of each newsletter. Limited
transportation is available for certain programs. You must call the Adaptive Office to arrange transportation.
It is a requirement that each individual have a current registration form filed with the Adaptive Office to participate in
the program. There is a registration form on page 3 for those needing to update or register for the program. To verify
your registration form status, you may call the Adaptive Office at 459-1097.
I would like to remind those being transported by the Parks & Recreation Vans to wear appropriate outer wear for the
current weather conditions. If your attire is insufficient for the weather; the van driver will require you to obtain the
necessary gear before transporting. The winter time in Fairbanks can be quite severe therefore it is imperative for everyone to be prepared at all times. Please don’t forget you boots, hat, mittens, warm coat and your house key when preparing for a ride with Parks & Recreation.
The cold weather policy remains that –30degrees below zero no Parks & Recreation transportation and –20 degrees
below zero the van lift will not be utilized. The cold weather number is 458-3745, 1113, which is called 2 hours prior
to pick up times and at this time transporting of participants will be determined.
You will find the dates of program cancelations listed at the bottom of this page so please mark your calendars.
The Adaptive Program Staff wishes everyone “ Happy New Year”, as we look forward to seeing you at programs.
Tiffany
