Monday, February 2 ~ Presentation of
the Lord (Candlemas Day)
Bring your candles to be blessed at the 8 a.m. and
12:05 p.m. Masses
Candlemas is the celebration of the day Mary
and Joseph presented the Lord in the temple in
Jerusalem. It’s a traditional day to bless candles
used in the church or in the home, symbolizing
that Jesus is the light of the world.
This Sunday’s second collection will help defray the cost
of winter fuel.
Next Sunday, February 8 , the second collection will be
for our Adult Education Programs.
Tuesday, February 3 ~ Feast of Saint Blaise
Blessing of the throats at the 8 a.m. and 12:05 p.m. Masses
St. Blaise is reputed to have once saved a child
from choking; he is invoked on behalf of the sick,
especially those with throat ailments. A communal
blessing will be given.
Wednesday, February 11 ~ World Day of the Sick
Healing through anointing with oil at the 12:05 p.m. Mass
On the observance of the Feast of Our Lady of
Lourdes, we will offer the opportunity for the
reception of the Sacrament of the Anointing of
the Sick. The anointing with oil of the sick is used
to support those who seek healing. It can be requested by anyone seeking healing of body, mind
or spirit. Please join us to be anointed and/or to
pray for those who are sick.

VOCATIONS TO RELIGIOUS LIFE
February 7/8 Weekend Observing
World Day for Consecrated Life
Bishop DiMarzio’s Annual Vocation
Retreat: March 6–8
On or near the feast of the Presentation of the Lord,
the universal Church puts special emphasis on the call to
consecrated life in today’s world. Pope Francis requests
that through 2015 we continue prayers for varied religious orders and the work they do. Next Sunday parishes
everywhere, including ours, will observe this day. We ask
you to please pray for all those in our diocese who have
made commitments in the consecrated life. Be sure to
thank them on their special day. May they continue to
be inspired by Jesus Christ and respond generously to
God’s gift of their vocation.
Attention young Catholic men (ages 17–35)—If you
have ever considered the possibility that God may be
calling you to become a priest, please think about attending this year’s weekend vocation retreat. It runs
from Friday, March 6 through Sunday, March 8 at the
Jesus of Nazareth Retreat Center in Brooklyn. For complete details or to register, contact the Diocese VocaWLRQV 2IÀFHYRFDWLRQV#GLREURRNRUJ RU or visit this website:
