WEEKLY CALENDAR
No Greater Challenge
The kingdom of God is near! The time is short!
Reform your lives, just as the people of Nineveh
turned from their evil way. Leave behind your attachment to possessions and security, and come follow Jesus.
There is much for which we have to repent: poverty, hunger, homelessness, discrimination, war, the
destruction of the earth and the wasting of its resources. Forty days more and Nineveh shall be destroyed.
The Christian believes what Paul wrote, that the
world as we know it is passing away. Ahead lies the
kingdom of God, and each of us must choose between solidarity with a world headed for destruction
and solidarity with a world ruled by God.
Things can change for us, as they did for Nineveh
when they believed God, who shows sinners the way
and guides the humble to justice.
No greater challenge or higher priority can be
imagined than the development and perfection
of a theology of peace suited to a civilization
poised on the brink of self-destruction.

• ¿Questions? •
Must you be called as a missionary and go to Africa, or could you be called to bring the Good News
wherever you are and in whatever you do? How does
Jesus call you?
According to Pope Francis’s statement below, do
you have to be perfect to be called? Is the Lord with
you when you make mistakes? How does he show
his eternal love?
The watchword today is “immediately.” Peter
and Andrew, James and John all respond immediately to the call of Christ. May I be as open to God’s
call and as ready to use my talents in His service as
those first disciples were!

THEY WHO HUNGER FOR
RIGHTEOUSNESS
RETROUVAILLE
MARRIAGE HELP PROGRAM
In 1963, a bomb exploded in a Sunday School in Birmingham, Alabama. It killed four young black girls (later
“African American”).
Perfectly understandable outrage and hatred of white men
ran rampant in the black community.
Many wanted the justice of execution, or at least life imprisonment, for the perpetrators.
February 27, 28 and March 1
But at their funeral, Martin Luther King said,” History has
proven over and over again that unmerited suffering is redemptive.” Whereas violence is not redemptive – it does
not save, does not create the Kingdom of Heaven.
King added, “We must not lose faith in our white brothers.
Somehow we must believe that the most misguided among
them can learn to respect the dignity and worth of all human personality.”
The goal of righteousness is not triumph of ‘us’ over ‘them,’
but reconciliation and good for all of us as brothers and
sisters.
Dr King’s extraordinary courage and disciplined love in
speaking those words won my trust. I began to think of him
as a brother.
I believe this was the turning point in the black struggle for
dignity.
Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they shall be satisfied.

A lifeline for marriages, Retrouvaille is designed
to help troubled marriages regain their health.
The program consists of a weekend experience
combined with postweekend sessions, with the
main emphasis being communication between
husband and wife. This provides couples the
opportunity to rediscover each other and examine their lives together in a new, positive way.
The program is highly successful in saving hurting marriages, even bringing reconciliation to
couples who have already separated or divorced.
