SECOND WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME
Dear Friends of Holy Spirit,
GREETER’S AND USHERS NEEDED
“Ministers of Hospitality”
We need parishioners to “Greet” people as they enter our
church each weekend and make them feel Welcome in
God’s house and within the Holy Spirit Community.
We also need people to serve as Ushers at Mass. As an
usher, we help seat people, gather the monetary contributions, assist people during Communion, and hand out bulletins following Mass. As Ushers, we serve during a specific
Mass time (i.e., noon Mass or 7:30am Mass) for that whole
month but we only Usher every third month of the year.
Please prayerfully consider serving our parish community as
either a Greeter or as an Usher. If interested, please fill out
the form below and turn it into the collection basket or the
parish office.
Thank You!
This week I will be leaving for Honduras with 12 other
parishioners. Our flight leaves about 6:30 A.M. on Tuesday and we will be in Honduras by 1:00 P.M. Being on
Central Time they are only one hour behind us. During
the following 7 days we will spend time visiting the sick
in the mountains and also teaching English. Mingled
between these activities will be many opportunities to
be with the people of the parish.
As you might remember, the parish of San Francisco
de Asis consist of the central town of Texiquat and also
40 smaller village or “aldeas” that are located up in the
mountains. About half of the villages can be reached by
a four-wheel drive vehicle while the remaining ones can
only be reached by walking or horseback. Many of the
villages have small chapels where prayer is held on
Sundays and the priest will visit for Mass as frequently
as he is able, perhaps every three months.
Pray for us that God will touch our hearts with his
love through these wonderful people. Pray that we will
touch their hearts also! We are returning on the 27th.
I am proud of the directories! Thank you to Andrea
Beidelman, Michele Golab, and all who helped to create
this book. Remember, if you had your picture taken,
you are entitled to a free directory (which are in the vestibules). Later, we will probably have some for sale as
well. God’s Blessings and Love,

The Arts & Environment Ministry would like
to thank the entire congregation, the school
faculty, and the Holy Spirit students for a
very successful Food Drive for St. Vincent de Paul. We’d
also like to thank Kathy Schultheis for coordinating this big
project with the St. Vincent de Paul organization.
MEETING ROOMS FOR EVENTS
PLEASE reserve meeting rooms at church and school
as far in advance as possible. We have to know who is in our
buildings. For the safety, security and convenience for all, we
give a schedule to our security team; if your event is not on
the schedule, they will come in and question you and ask for
identification.
For best results, you can ask for a confirmation sheet
when you reserve your space. Emailing requests to:
[email protected] is one way to reserve space.
Your space is not reserved until you receive a return email,
or you can call the Parish Office at 353-9404 to make a
reservation. Even if your meeting involves Fr. Paul or Fr. Juan, please do
not assume that they are scheduling
a meeting space. Thank you!
SECOND WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME
YOUTH MINISTRY
Schedule of Events
Our next Confirmation Classes will
be next weekend with our Spanish
class on Saturday the 24th from 2-4:00 pm and our English
class on Sunday the 25th from 3-4:30 pm. If you haven’t yet
registered for our Confirmation Program, please ensure that
your son or daughter comes to either our English or Spanish
class next weekend and contact our office about registration.
Our Sky Zone Trip is fast approaching. There are safety
waivers and flyers in the parish office and in the vestibules. We will be meeting at Sky Zone in Fishers at 10:30
and jump from 11-12:00 am. The cost is $25 and we hope to
see you there!
On February 7th, there will be a Confirmation Day of Reflection. This would count as a Confirmation Retreat alternative
if there are unforeseen scheduling conflicts for our parish’s
Confirmation Retreat in August. Please check any fall sport or
extracurricular activity schedules that your child is or will be
involved in to see if there will be any scheduling conflicts.
We will be having a workshop to help those struggling to
determine their Confirmation Saint Name. This can be a
daunting process with the amount of saints to choose
from. So we will meet on Sunday, Feb. 8th from 12-1:00 in
the Parish Center to work on finding the right saint for each
candidate. This is not required or mandatory, but encouraged
for those who need some additional help. If there are questions, please do not hesitate to contact Mary Kate Shanahan

Si le preguntamos a Cristo: “Donde vives?”, el nos
respondería lo mismo que a los disípalos de Juan:
“Vengan a ver”.

Autor: Su santidad Juan Pablo II
Oh Virgen María, Salud de los enfermos,
que has acompañado a Jesús en el
camino del Calvario y has permanecido
junto a la cruz en la que moría tu Hijo,
participando íntimamente de sus dolores,
acoge nuestros sufrimientos y únelos a
los de Él, para que las semillas
esparcidas durante el Jubileo sigan
produciendo frutos abundantes en los
años venideros. Amen
Por favor oren por los enfermos y difuntos de nuestra
comunidad:

Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection
of Unborn Children - January 22, 2015
The over 56 million abortions since the 1973 decisions
of Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton reflect with heartbreaking magnitude what Pope Francis means by a
"throwaway culture." January 22 is designated as a particular day of prayer and penance, called the "Day of
Prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children". "In
all the Dioceses of the United States of America, January
22 (or January 23, when January 22 falls on a Sunday)
shall be observed as a particular day of prayer for the full
restoration of the legal guarantee of the right to life and of
penance for violations to the dignity of the human person
committed through acts of abortion" (General
Instruction of the Roman Missal, no. 373).
As individuals, we are called to observe this
day through the penitential practices of
prayer, fasting and/or giving alms.
Many repairs and improvements
can be performed in-house by
our talented maintenance staff,
such as repairing chairs &
desks, refurbishing class room
doors, keeping mowers & snow-blowers running,
refurbishing picnic tables, and many more. Anything
that we can fix ourselves, helps us to save money for
both our church and school. If you need to make room
in the garage for the new tools that Santa brought you
for Christmas, please consider donating them to our
parish as we are constantly trying to stay ahead of
the repairs. Here are a few items that we know our
maintenance staff could put to good use:
•
Expandable step ladder, 10-16 ft. length
(aluminum or fiberglass). Approx. cost is $200
•
Drill Press: table or floor model (new or used)
with a 5/8” chuck. Approx. cost is $130-$300
•
Air Compressor Accessories such as: impact
wrenches, rachets, nailers and staplers.
•
Tig Welder, 120V (new or used). Approx. cost
is $400-$1,500
Thank you for your generosity
to our parish and school!
Congratulations to our parishioner,
Juan Carols Fuentes who recently
was awarded the prestigious
‘Economic Dignity Fellowship.’ This
is a four-month intensive field program for highly energized individuals interested in deepening their
ministry and learning the skills of faith based community
organizing. Juan Carlos is well known within our parish
community for his passion and commitment to social justice. Congratulations again, Juan Carlos, for your welldeserved honor!

Bendict Inn Offers Program
About Compassion
Friday, January 30th from 7-9pm
There will be a discussion with a question &
answer session followed by a book signing by
Vanessa Hurst author of the newly published,
“Engaging Compassion Through Intent and
Action.”
Compassion is more than a buzzword — it is a way of being that has been practiced for thousands of years. Today we
are so busy that the connection between our intent and our
compassionate action is weakened. We react instead of responding compassionately. Join Vanessa in a discussion of
how to mend the connection between our intent and action.
Using the metaphor of the bridge, Vanessa creates the
template for living a more aware, compassion filled life. Learn
simple practices that will bring you into the awareness of
opportunities to share compassion. Build your bridge to
