Yes! The parent(s) and godparent(s) just need to attend a single preparation class; the next one in English is Monday, October 27, 7:30—9 PM in the chapel. Paperwork is minimal: get
the form from the office or the lobby information desk.

Our small groups of 8-10 parishioners meet in private homes
all around Yonkers. They are a beautiful experience of prayer,
fellowship, and support. Ask at the lobby information desk to
be put in touch with the group that is the best fit for you.

World Mission Sunday
This weekend’s special collection funds the
Church’s work in 1,150 dioceses in countries
which are not traditionally Catholic, mostly in
Africa and Asia, in places where the Church is
young and growing but financially unable to
build enough clinics, orphanages, and schools
to meet local needs.
Theft at Sacred Heart Church
Sadly, multiple sacred ítems were stolen on
Monday night from one of our fellow parishes
in Yonkers. A $1,000 reward has been offered
by the police for information leading to the
arrest of suspects. Please help keep our
church securely locked at night.

“Made for More” Week 2:
“How Do We Know the Bible Is True?”
As Curtis Martin explains in Chapter 2 of “Made for More”,
most people who claim that the Bible is not God’s Word are
misunderstanding it: He gives examples of how some
passages are falsely assumed to contradict each other,
how identifying the literary genre of each passage is crucial
to understanding it, how the Bible uses the human
language of its time instead of scientific language, etc.
He then discusses how we possess 5,366 ancient
manuscripts and fragments of the Bible — all datable to
within 50-100 years of the originals — overwhelmingly
proving both that the sacred text is not a later invention
and how much it was valued by the first Christians.
But at the end of the day, how do I know that this is God’s
Word? Ultimately it is because the Church tells me so. The
first members of the Church wrote the New Testament, and
the Holy Spirit guided the Church to select the books that
were authentically his. The Bible comes from and through
the Catholic Church, not any other Church, and it is the
trust that we have in our Church that is the basis for our
trust that the Bible is truly the Word of God.
