“Sunny” Thoughts
1st Sunday Advent Year B Bulletin Message
Today is the first Sunday of Advent and the beginning of a
new Liturgical year. Advent comes from the Latin word: ADVENTUS, which
means “waiting for the coming” of Jesus Christ. At Christmas time we are
celebrating the first coming of Jesus into the world through His Incarnation. The second coming of Christ is what we are eagerly waiting for. Jesus
had spoken to His disciples how to be prepared for this event aswe see in
today’s Gospel. “Watch, therefore, you do not know when the Lord of the
House is coming.” (Mk 13:35)
“Take heed, watch and pray; for you do not
know when the time will come.” - Mark 13:33
We all take things for granted. In particular, we
take time for granted. Our lives are so busy,
many of us are planning our time - our days,
weeks, months, even years in advance.
Remember, our time on earth is a gift. None of
us knows how long we will be here. Start today
and begin thanking God for each and every
day. Take time in silence, everyday, and listen
to what God is saying to you.
St. Bernard spoke of a third coming of Christ, a secret one, which is already taking place here and now. Even though this coming is hidden from
us through mystery, it is nonetheless very real and powerful. Every time
we come together for the Sunday Worship, through the Word of God,
through the Holy Communion Jesus is coming into our lives. Through the
parishioners we greet at the entrance of our Church, those who regularly
come and those who may be coming after a long interval, we are actually
welcoming Jesus into our Church!
Christmas, hope for humanity.
That the birth of the
Redeemer may bring
peace and hope to all
people of good will.
Parents.
Hospitality is an essential element of a Stewardship community. Our SJN Parish has always
been a hospitable community. I am so grateful to
all our Welcome Ministers who have been so generous in sharing their time and effort to greet the
people at the door and to make everyone feel at
home in our Church. Hospitality is a virtue to be shared, not only by our
Welcome ministers but by every parishioner. It takes a collective effort by
everyone to let our parishioners and guests know that we are grateful and
enthusiastic about them, about their presence at our Church. Beginning
this Advent Season, with a renewed spirit, let us join our Welcome ministers under its new leadership, in welcoming Jesus into our Church through
our parishioners and guests. Wish you all a Hope-filled Advent Season!
Father Sunny
Pastor
That parents may be true
evangelizers, passing on
to their children the precious gift of faith.
There are a few
sponsorships for the Marian
Chapel still available. If you
are interested, please contact
Deacon Bill Marten in the
church office. If you haven’t pledged, yet please take
some time today to do so; it will save us a phone call
and you time on the phone. We ask that you be
charitable to our campaign volunteers when they do
phone you to ask for a pledge. As a reminder…..
Father Sunny would like every family in the parish
to have an engraved Legacy Paver.

Pensamiento Padre Sunny
“Estén alerta, velen; porque no saben cuándo
es el tiempo señalado.” - Marcos 13:33
Juan Neumann: www.sjnlilburn.com.

Welcoming All!
If you’ve ever been a visitor
to a church that is not your
own, you would know how
lost and unfamiliar it can
seem. Debbie Kosciolek, our
new Welcome Ministry Coordinator, hopes that no one
will ever leave our Church without being greeted and
welcomed.
Debbie loves the quote from scripture:
"Let mutual love continue. Do not neglect to show
hospitality to strangers for by doing that some have
entertained angels without knowing it." ~Hebrews
13:1
She has participated in greeting the visitors and the
parishioners alike over the past 5 years, and wants to
make this Christmas Season in our parish an opportunity
for all our brothers and sisters who have left the faith to
feel a warm embrace from our parish if they return with
Catholic family members for Christmas Mass. “I am
hoping that all members of our parish will see all visitors
not as an imposition or intruder, but rather as a returning
family member. We are planning to really stepping up the
parish hospitality in the days and months to come.”
If you’d like to help with the Christmas welcoming, or the
be on the Welcome Ministry, contact Debbie at 770-3094632.

The Angel Tree Program sponsored by the St. Vincent de Paul Society will be
available after all Masses this weekend. Please consider sponsoring a family
this Christmas and bring the Light of Christ to those less fortunate in the
Lilburn area. The Angel Tree will be available after all Masses the weekends of
November 29th- November 30th and December 6th – 7th. Members of the St.
Vincent de Paul Society will be available in the lower level of the Church after all Masses to answer your
questions and provide instructions about the programs.
Additionally, many thanks to those who donated to the Turkeys Boxes. Your donations helped support
the Food Sunday and Angel Tree Programs. Through your donations St. Vincent de Paul purchased the
perishable food items for Food Sunday and food certificates that are given with the Christmas delivery.
