THE JOURNEY OF TRANSFIGURATION
“We used to be such good friends. How is it that you’ve moved so far
away?” one man asked another. “Perhaps,” the other replied, “you have
moved away. By standing still.” This exchange very well could have happened between Peter and Jesus, had Peter been allowed to erect tents to stay
on the mount of the Transfiguration. He nearly succumbed to the temptation to
stay in a place of wonder and light. But Jesus knew the hard truth: we are on a
continual journey when we are walking the paths of God’s will. It is not good
for us to stay in one place on our faith journey. Equally unhealthy is staying
put in times of joy and wonder to avoid life’s difficulties, or to wallow in our
trials and temptations and fail to be companions for our sisters and brothers
who are also suffering—or celebrating! The pilgrim Church is required to do
one thing on its Lenten journey: to walk continually with Christ as his Body
born of water and the Spirit, seeking God’s will, helping the reign of God to
be known on earth, being led to the end of our journey, transfigured for all
time into the company of heaven.

Ways to Evangelize
and Reclaim the Sense
of the Sacred
As Catholics, we are called to know
and defend the Faith. We are also
called to set a good example for others. The following suggestions are
some personal acts of good examples:
1. Discourage bringing food and toys for
toddlers and older children into church.
Children can be taught to behave properly.
2. When praying, try holding your hands
together with your fingers and thumbs
pointed upward to keep your mind focused
on prayer.
3. Cell Phones should not be used during
mass … unless you’re using it to follow
along with the readings at Mass. Let’s give
God our full attention and avoid texting,
reading emails, etc. If you bring your
phone into Church, it should always be on
silent, airplane mode or off completely.
Next week, I will provide a few more
suggestions.
Calling all teens

SECOND SUNDAY OF LENT
March 12, 2017
Our Lent Project
Our Lent Project this year is to support Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Nursing Home in
Higuey, Dominican Republic. The nursing home is run by the Congregation of the
Cardinal Sancha Charity. The nuns take care of 37 elderly residents who have
been abandoned and are without family. The home provides shelter, clothing,
food, medications and medical care. All this is possible through the generosity of
concerned people. $75.00 covers the cost of 2 months of care for a resident. We
ask that you prayerfully consider a donation. Mission Committee members will be
at the front of the church after Mass to answer your questions.

Mercy which will start on Tuesday March 28th. This is a ten
week program presented by Thomas Smith, a very inspiring
speaker. This study group will meet in Classroom 2 on Tuesday

Anyone interested is welcome. There is a workbook included

In the Prophets you will:
• Discover who the prophets were, what their message was,
and why they are important to us.
• See how God is calling you to a deeper relationship with
Him.
• Discover areas in your life that prevent you from drawing
closer to Him.
• Understand how the central message of the prophets is
one of love, proclaiming the mercy of God for His children.
• See how their powerful words speak to us today, shedding light on our faith and our lives.
• Discover the ways you are called to be the voice of God
to others.
And much more!

Regulations on Fasting and Abstinence
The dual disciplines of fasting and abstinence have a long history in the Catholic Church. Going back to the early Church, the purpose behind the custom of self denial is not punishment; it is to simplify our lifestyles so that we create a certain emptiness. In this
way, freed from all distractions, we are able to hear and respond to God’s continued call to conversion and holiness.
♦ Fasting is to be observed on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday by all Catholics between the ages of 18 to 59 years (inclusive). On
days of fasting, one full meal is allowed. Two smaller meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to one’s needs,
but together they should not equal another full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted, but liquids are allowed.
♦ Abstinence from meat is to be observed by all Catholics who are 14 years of age and older. Ash Wednesday, all the Fridays of
Lent, and Good Friday are days of abstinence.
Note: If a person is unable to observe the above regulations due to ill health or other serious reasons, they are urged to practice other
forms of self denial that are suitable to their condition.
Fasting, almsgiving, and prayer are the three traditional disciplines of Lent. The faithful and catechumens should undertake these
practices seriously in a spirit of penance and of preparation for baptism or of renewal of baptism at Easter.

Segundo Domingo de Cuaresma
EL VIAJE DE LA TRANSFIGURACIÓN
“Solíamos ser tan buenos amigos. ¿Por qué te has
