A Note from Fr. Manny
Dear St. Francis Family
Three days from now, we step into the
season of Lent as we devote this coming
Wednesday, (Ash Wednesday) allowing ourselves to be marked with the dust of ashes
on our forehead, keeping in mind our very
beginning that "we are dust and to dust we
shall return", (Gen.3:19). Let us humbly admit our sinfulness, weaknesses and frailties before God.
I believe, we all desire to live our life to the fullest and
never will end life in failure. God has given us life, and
provided us everything to sustain our needs. He created
everything good for us not only for our self-fulfillment in
this world but for the world to come as well.
This weekend's readings are simply reminding us that
we cannot serve two masters at the same time (Mt.6:24)
"He either hate one and love the other. You cannot serve
God and Mammon."
I believe too that we cannot really serve God while giving
to much attention on acquiring riches. Wealth by itself is good
and there's nothing wrong with being sufficient in life. The
Lord is just simply telling us to use and work wisely for the
things of this world and learn to love God by the way we help
and share others in their need. It's a matter of using things and
riches for the greater love and glory of God.
May St. Francis help and guide us as instruments of
God's created things. Amen
Fr. Manny
Padre Manuel

About Lent: The 2017 Lenten season begins on Ash Wednesday,
March 1, for Latin-rite Catholics.
In a particular way during Lent, we are asked to devote ourselves
to the spiritual and corporal works of mercy that "remind us that
faith finds expression in concrete everyday actions meant to help
our neighbors in body and spirit."
Take inspiration for your Lenten journey from prayer and to the reading of Scripture, to fasting and to giving alms. The key to fruitful observance of these practices is to recognize their link to baptismal renewal. We are called not just to abstain from sin during Lent, but to
true conversion of our hearts and minds as followers of Christ. We
recall those waters in which we were baptized into Christ's death, died
to sin and evil, and began new life in Christ.
"Lent is a favorable season for opening the doors to all those in
need and recognizing in them the face of Christ."-- Pope Francis, Message for Lent 2017. . . www.USCCB.org
Important Reminder: All parents of RE students, Confirmation
Students & St. Francis’ Community are cordially invite to attend
the Lenten Reflections:
Monday Feb. 27, 2017 @ 7 PM English Session by Deacon Larry
Seidemann.
Monday Mar. 6, 2017 @ 7 PM Spanish Session by Deacon Sergio Carranza.
Lenten Reconciliation Services, Tuesday March 7, 2017 @ 6:30 PM
Let us take advantage of this opportunity to prepare ourselves
spiritually for this Lenten Season.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Acerca de la Cuaresma: Para los católicos de rito latino, el 1 de marzo, Miércoles de Ceniza, comienza la temporada de Cuaresma 2017.
De una manera particular durante la Cuaresma, se nos pide que nos
dediquemos a las obras espirituales y corporales de misericordia que
"nos recuerdan que la fe se expresa en acciones cotidianas concretas
destinadas a ayudar a nuestros prójimos en cuerpo y espíritu".
Hay que tomar inspiración para vivir esta cuaresma en la oración,
la lectura de la Sagrada Escritura, ayunar y dar limosna. La clave
para la fructífera observancia de estas prácticas es reconocer su
vínculo con la renovación bautismal. No solo estamos llamados a
abstenernos de pecar durante la Cuaresma, sino a la verdadera
conversión de nuestros corazones y mentes como seguidores de
Cristo. Recordamos aquellas aguas en las que fuimos bautizados
en la muerte de Cristo, muriendo al pecado y al mal, comenzando
una vida nueva en Cristo.
"La Cuaresma es una época favorable para abrir las puertas a
todos los necesitados y reconocer en ellos el rostro de Cristo." Papa Francisco, Mensaje para la Cuaresma 2017...
www.USCCB.org
Recordatorio Importante: Todos los padres de familia de estudiantes en Educación Religiosa, estudiantes de Confirmación, y a
toda la comunidad de San Francisco de Asís, se les hace una cordial invitación a las reflexiones de Cuaresma:
El lunes 27 de febrero del 2017 a las 7 PM, sesión en Ingles por el
Diacono Larry Seidemann.
El lunes 6 de marzo del 2017 a las 7 PM, sesión en Español por el
Diacono Sergio Carranza.
Martes 7 de marzo servicio de reconciliación de Cuaresma a las 6:30 PM
Aprovechemos esta oportunidad de prepararnos espiritualmente
para esta temporada de Adviento.
