DO YOU HAVE AN INN FOR JESUS?
Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, Merry Christmas to you
and your family!
Every year, there is a debate on how our society should celebrate
Christmas. Some people have been campaigning to keep Christ out
of their picture. Some businesses and some politicians in our country
do not want to recognize the traditional greeting: Merry Christmas!
Newspapers, magazines, televisions and radios all say “Happy Holidays”
instead. They also don’t allow the word of God or Christ, or in God We
Trust to be used in public gatherings or in schools. For the sake of being
a multicultural society and for the sake of pluralism, they argue, we have
to make people of other faiths feel welcome to America. We don’t want
to offend people of other faith. We don’t want to offend people of other
cultures; therefore, we do away with Christ and with God. We drop our Christian identity that makes us who we
are and what we believe, to make other people feel welcomed. I don’t think this argument sounds right.
Indeed, to unwelcome Christ in order to make other people feel welcome is an offense to God. This is counter
evangelization. We cannot evangelize others if we let go of our Christian culture heritage. The message from
heaven is that the whole world should be enrolled. The midnight’s Gospel, Saint Luke tells us that “in those
days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that the whole world should be enrolled.” Today, a decree also
goes out from Christ that the whole world should be enrolled under the leadership of Christ. The glory of God
has appeared. The words of the angel are clear, “I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the
people. For today in the city of David, a Savior has been born for you who is Christ and Lord.” Therefore, Christ
is the good news of great joy, not for a group of people, but for all people.
All things came to be through Him, and without Him nothing came to be. He is the life of the human race. He
is the light of the world. Then the shepherds went in haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the infant. When
they saw this they make known the message that had been told them about this child. They were not afraid
to offend anyone. The message of Jesus and about Jesus is the message of Joy, Love, and Redemption. This
message is only offensive to Satan.
Today many places don’t have room for Jesus and also many people don’t make room for Him either.
This Christmas season, do you have a room for the Baby Child Jesus?

PASTOR’S MESSAGE
GIVE YOUR PRESENCE AS WELL AS PRESENTS
During the Christmas season, there are a lot of temptations to
make presents the center of our attention. We are bombarded
with newspaper, T.V., radio, and direct mail sales that offer us
"Unbelievable sales and bargains"! There is a speeding up of the
pace of our lives to the extent that we sometimes tire out and just
want to escape the pressure. In the center of the maelstrom of all
of these activities, the Lord Jesus, Emmanuel, whom we welcome,
bids us to be in a place of peace, joy and mercy. He wants to
be our calm center and place of refreshment and rejuvenation.
The Christmas season is a time for the enjoyment of special
intimacy with Christ and of commitment to His counter cultural
ways. This is also the perfect time to consider our responsibilities
to our neighbors and, in fact, to pursue the question "Who is my
neighbor"? The practice of giving brightly wrapped presents
during Christmas is a Victorian custom that has now become big
business with its own "Black Friday" special day of bargains "Buy
one suit and get three additional ones for free"! We know that a
present that truly expresses and symbolizes love and the intention
of the gift-giver is much appreciated. It cannot, however, be a
formality or requirement and still be a real "present". We look
for real presents to come from the heart.
As regards our "presence" during the Christmas season, nothing
can replace it. No material gift can begin to replace our physical
presence and loving attentiveness. If we are present and lovingly
attentive, we can so enrich each others lives as to be beyond any price. When I look around at my family Christmas celebration and see all the loved
ones of my family and when I hear each of their distinctive voices, I see and hear only love and unconditional acceptance. This is the Christmas gift of
home and family. This experience can never be replaced by presents because it is true presence. As we go about our Christmas season preparations, let
us please never forget the power of our presence to heal, express love and grant mercy and forgiveness. Christmas is our great time of peace and joy
because the Christ Child became a present to us as God's most perfect presence.
- Msgr. Michael D. McGraw

THE LIVE CRECHE AND ITS ORIGIN
The story is old and the message is clear. The Nativity Scenes we see all over are a visible reminder of the birth of our Savior and of the night He was
born. I hope we never fail to see in our hearts the Baby Who came to save us from our sins. With that being said, I would like to share with you the results
of my research on the crèche and how it came into being in its live form. It may also surprise some of you to learn who was responsible for the first live
representation of the blessed event.
In 1223, a deacon was celebrating Christmas in a small mountainside town called Grecio. This deacon turned out to be none other than St. Francis of Assisi.
Although he was a deacon at the time, I will still refer to him as St. Francis. While making preparations for the Midnight Mass at the chapel of the Franciscan
hermitage, he realized the congregation had outgrown it and that he would need to remedy that situation in order to accommodate the people. So, he set
out to the town square and found a niche in a rock there where he set up an altar. This Midnight Mass as it turned out would be different from all others.
According to research St. Bonaventure explained it best.
“First Francis sought and obtained permission from the Pope so as not to be accused of lightness or novelty in his endeavor. Then he prepared a manger, and
brought hay, and an ox and an ass to the place appointed. The brethren were summoned, the people ran together, the forest resounded with their voices, and
that venerable night was made glorious by many and brilliant lights and sonorous psalms of praise. St. Francis stood before the manger, full of devotion and
piety, bathed in tears and radiant with joy; the Holy Gospel was chanted by Francis, the Levite of Christ. Then he preached to the people around the Nativity
of the poor King; and being unable to utter His name for the tenderness of His love, he called Him the Babe of Bethlehem.” - Father William Saunders
“So, of all the Christmas decorations we so lovingly place around our homes, in our churches, in our parks, and yards, the one that is indispensable as it is
central to the meaning of Christmas, is the Creche or Nativity Scene. And at the time it is assembled, the story of the Birth of Our Lord ought to be retold
every year. Children should be off to bed with visions of the Infant Savior in their hearts, not sugarplums in their heads.” - Francis Weisner, S.J.
Now, from the Music Ministry here at St. Joan of Arc...”KEEP CHRIST IN CHRISTMAS” and always keep a song of praise and thanksgiving in your hearts and
on your lips! MERRY CHRISTMAS! MANY BLESSINGS!

Thanks to those parishioners who contributed over the weekend
we have raised $200,000 towards our Matching Gift of $250,000.
Leaving us with $50,000 remaining! Please make your pledge now...
because your donation is twice as valuable!
The massive and exciting effort to complete the redesign and refurbishing
of our SJA Campus continues, growing ever so close to reality each day.
But, it is not yet there and funds are still needed.
Over the summer, St. Joan of Arc was gifted $250,000 towards the campaign
with the caveat that this funding would ignite a passion to complete the project
sooner than anticipated through a match challenge donation. Will you rise to the
recent challenge set forth by this gift? Will you help to complete this project?
Because no gift is too small, will you give what you can in order to do so?
While typical capital campaigns concentrate on the bricks and mortar, Our St.
Joan of Arc Campus will be more than defining walls or aesthetically appealing
accompaniments. Rather, it will be a place where St. Joan of Arc school children are
able to learn in an art conservatory where discovering music, dance and the visual
arts lends to learning in other academic areas. And, it will be a place for children to
discover, grow and thrive.
It will be a place where people in need come for help. It will be a gathering
place for social events and meetings. It will be a legacy for our children, who
will be the future of our Catholic faith. The redesign and refurbishing of our SJA
Campus is a part of us all.
You see, the Journeying Forward into the Heart of Our Future is so much more
than superficial buildings or structures. It is a comprehensive, thoughtful and
caring plan to meet the needs of our seniors, our children and our families. It’s
about being able to provide more help to the community too. The Journeying
Forward into the Heart of Our Future is, in part, about our past. A past full of
passion and dedication to have a Catholic church in Boca Raton, a past that
started a future for us all. Wouldn’t you want to help start a future for others?
Be a pioneer. Give to the future of St. Joan of Arc.
Give to the campaign.
All donations made up until December 31
will be matched up to $250,000.

ALTAR Do you want a special remembrance for a loved one, living or deceased?
BREAD You can donate Altar Bread for a week of Masses by calling
The Parish Office at 561.392.0007.
TO LEAVE A LEGACY FOR ST. JOAN OF ARC
STEP 1 Gather your information about your assets, including retirement
funds, bank accounts and real property.
STEP 2 Choose the type of bequest you’d like to make.
1. Unrestricted bequest. This is a donation to be used for St. Joan of Arc general funds.
This donation would be used where it is most needed.
2. Restricted bequest. This donation specifies how the money is to be used.
(This could be restricted to go into the endowment, a specific ministry, or the building fund.)
A bequest can be made in a number of ways:
• A specific dollar amount.
• Specific assets, such as securities, real estate, or tangible property.
• Retirement account assets, consisting of any benefits remaining in your retirement plan.
• A residuary bequest, St. Joan of Arc receives all or a percentage of your estate after all
other obligations are met.
• An existing will or trust can be easily amended to include a gift to St. Joan of Arc
without rewriting the entire document. Your attorney can prepare a simple document,
called a codicil, which adds a new bequest while reaffirming the terms of your will.
Similarly, an attorney can prepare an amendment to a revocable trust to add
St. Joan of Arc.
STEP 3 Meet with your estate planning attorney.
If you need to create a will or just update your existing document, you’ll want to
get advice from your estate planning attorney.
An attorney can advise you as to the best way to structure your will in order to take
care of your loved ones first and then your charitable interests while assuring the best
tax benefits.
As a charitable, not-for-profit all bequests to St. Joan of Arc are fully deductible for estate
tax purposes.
STEP 4 Contact us.
We acknowledge and welcome donors into our Arc Angel Society.
Members are invited to special member events and receive special mailings.
(We also recognize and respect the wishes of anyone that wishes to remain anonymous.)

NAVIDAD!

esperar nada a cambio.
