The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) is the United Nations agency responsible for the promotion of responsible,
sustainable and universally accessible tourism.
UNWTO is currently looking for a Destination Management Assistant for its Destination Management and Quality
Programme.
The Destination Management and Quality Programme is committed to respond positively to the growing need for systematic,
multidisciplinary and intersectoral strategies for tourism at sub-national level in which the tourism stakeholders carry out their
individual and organizational responsibilities in a coordinated manner aiming to achieve the macro-level policies.
Under the overall supervision of the Director, Destination Management and Quality, the Service Contract holder is expected to
perform the following duties:
1. Organize data and information, prepare and maintain speeches, reports, presentations and documents for reference,
seminars/workshops, meetings or conferences;
2. Assist in the execution of the joined UNWTO/WTCF City Tourism Performance Study and the 3rd UNWTO Euro-Asian
Mountain Resorts Conference, which also includes the coordination and communication with the experts who will make
the survey in the field and perform the necessary follow-up with the participant cities;
3. Assist in the smooth organization and execution of Programme events and ensure the correct processing of mass
mailings of invitations, the preparation of related documents and lists of participants; provide logistical and technical
assistance for meetings and workshops and follow-up, as requested;
4. Maintain various databases and develop these to classify information for the Programme’s work;
5. Maintain the content of the Programme’s webpage and revise and update the content of the webpages of different
events;
6. Draft specialized and routine correspondence related to the Programme’s work and process reports;
7. Respond to information requests from tourism practitioners, students and experts;
8.
9. Research, compile, analyse, summarize and present basic information/data on a wide range of topics related to the
Programme and its activities, highlighting noteworthy issues for consideration;
10. Perform other duties, as required.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Education
Completion of secondary education, supplemented by university courses in a field related to the
assigned Programme in the Organization.

Experience and basic
competencies




Minimum of one year of technical or administrative experience, preferably in the field of
tourism;
Previous experience in the tourism sector and affinity with the topic of destination
management;
Experience and skills in coordinating research initiatives;
Experience in the communication of events and conferences.
Languages


Fluency in English;
Good working knowledge of another of the Organization’s official working languages
(Arabic, French, Spanish or Russian) would be an asset.
Computer Skills


Computer literacy in Microsoft Office software and Windows 7;
Good working knowledge of Windows-based spreadsheets and databases.

Strong oral and written communications skills in the languages required, as indicated above;
Demonstrated ability to work in a multicultural, multiethnic environment with sensitivity and
respect for diversity;

Sense of responsibility and commitment;
Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and on tight deadlines;
Good level of technical knowledge of tourism development and management is desirable;
Knowledge of structures and procedures of international organizations and of national
administrations is desirable.






Remuneration and Other
conditions
The remuneration of the selected candidate would be in the base range of EUR 1,200,
depending on previous professional experience, skills and competencies. The Service contract
holder will be affiliated to the UNWTO health insurance plan (co-shared scheme in conformity
with the Organization’s procedures).




There is no guarantee either that the initial contract will be renewed or that a career appointment within UNWTO
