Córdoba Ground Station (ETC)

Córdoba Ground Station is operated
by
Argentina
Space
Agency
(CONAE), started in September
1996.

May 2008 became operational, as
main node for DBNet South
America-Argentina Component.

Reception capability in L & X Bands.

Geographical location :
Lat. : - 31° 31’ Lon. : - 64° 27’
Altitude: 730 meters ASL.

Due to the Station excellent
localization, it is possible to
acquire regularly satellite data
from Argentina, Paraguay,
Uruguay,
Chile,
Bolivia,
important part of Peru and
south of Brazil.

Isla de Pascua Station (Easter Island) Chile


A readout station was implemented by CLS-ARGOS in late
August 2015 at Mataveri international airport on Isla de
Pascua, located in the Southwest Pacific.
Capability to receive:
L- Band : NOAA, Metop
X- Band : SNPP and FY-3
•
Geographical location:
27° 9′ S, 109° 25′ W
•
The global DBNet coverage has a gap
on the Southwest Pacific, so Isla de
Pascua is perfectly located to fill it.

Isla de Pascua Station Current Status
• Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Chile
Meteorological Direction and CLS-ARGOS, subsidiary of CNES
(France) foresees that all meteorological data acquired by the
receiving station will be made available, for meteorological
operations in Chile and worldwide.
• The receiving station is connected to the rest of the world via the
Civil Aviation Directorate network with the current constraint not to
exceed 18 MB/day, which practically prevents to transfer any
meteorological data file.
• The station priority is the ready
availability of ARGOS DCS data in
the CLS Data Center , hence the
antenna and the transmission
channel must be maintained with
a low degree of occupation.

Proposed way forward
• It may be impossible to upgrade the communication link in the short-term,
and. it is probably not the first priority, but a two-stage approach could be
considered:
1- With the existing link, to transfer only the ATOVS data from NOAA
and METOP, like the data from Santiago to Cordoba are transferred.
This volume would be about 1.2 MB per satellite pass, 12 MB per day
for 2 satellites x 10 passes per day, which can probably be
accommodated in the current bandwidth, although this is to be
confirmed with CLS-ARGOS.
2- Once the ATOVS data are used operationally and their impact
confirmed by NWP, it would be necessary to investigate to upgrade
the link and seek support from international partners, not only to
collect ATOVS but also S-NPP/CrIS and METOP/IASI.

Chile Meteorological Direction: Director Opinion
• “DMC have made a big effort to support the requirements of WMO
regarding the data that are being received in our facilities on Isla de
Pascua, despite Mr. Christian Bull (CUNLOGAN company) has given us
a formal answer to our request, if they do not give us a formal
authorization we cannot go forward”.
• “WMO authorities should interact with Collecte Localisation
Satellites (CLS) directives ( French company related with DMC through
Chilean office of CUNLOGAN company) to obtain the required
authorization”.
