Un itinerario ajardinado junto a la fortificación, de la
que se conserva un tramo
de 1.5 kilómetros. La Muralla
de Tarragona se erige como
el monumento romano más
antiguo de la Península.
Después de la Muralla,
iremos al Foro Provincial:
Por su condición de capital
de la provincia Hispania Citerior, Tarraco contaba con
un Foro Provincial, donde
se desarrollaba la vida política, jurídica y religiosa. El
Pretorio y el Circo serán la siguiente estación: La Torre del
Pretorio fue concebida como uno de los principales
accesos al Foro Provincial
desde el Circo romano. Parte del graderío es visitable. La
joya de la corona es el Anfiteatro. Fue el último edificio
público construido en Tarraco, que por falta de espacio intramuros se construyó
fuera de las Murallas. Su excelente estado de conservación alberga un tesoro,
dos iglesias paleocristianas
y la leyenda que los primeros
mártires fueron ejecutados
en su arena. Es importante pasearse por la Necrópolis. Se
convertirá en una de las más
activas del mundo romano
después de la sepultura de los
restos de los mártires locales Fructuoso, Augurio y Eulogio.

What you should know...
ROMAN WORLD MONUMENTS
◆ ?Tarragona the visitor may discover
the monuments of the Roman city Tarraco which in the year 2000 were declared a World Heritage by Unesco.
With a guided tour, the visitor will better understand how the Romans lived
and the relationship they forged. The
tour begins with a visit to the scale
model of Tarraco which shows how
the city was designed and built.
The main architectural monuments
in the city in the 2nd Century AD are represented. Once the visitor has gained a general impression of the ancient city the tour leads on to the Roman Walls and the Archaeological
Walk. This is a stroll through gardens
outside the walled city for about 1.5
kilómetres. The walls of Tarragona are
the oldest ancient Roman monumento n the Iberian peninsular. The tour then
goes on to visit the Provincial Forum.
As Tarraco was the capital of the Roman
province, Hispania Citerior, Tarraco
had to have a provincial fórum where
political, legal and religious affairs were conducted.
The Pretorium and the Circus monuments are next on the list. The Pretorium Tower was one of the main accesses to the Provincial Forum from the
Circus. The circus was where horse race events took place and the part of the
grandstand can be visited. The crown
jewel is the Anfiteatro.It was the last public building erected in Tarraco in the
2nd.C. AD. It was built outside the walls
because of lack of space in the city. It is
in an excelllent state of conservation and
houses two jewels of paleocristian art.,
two churches.
The legend has it that the first Christian martyres were executed in this
arena. Last, but not least, a visit to the
Necrópolis. This was one of the most
important in the Roman World, especially after the burial of the remains
of the three local martyres, Fructuoso, Augurio and Eulogio.

THE MAGIC FOUNTAINS
◆ Many visitors are familiar with the
beautiful beaches and coves in Salou.
They were even known as the Beaches
of Europe, and the slogan was a reality
summer after summer. As well as the fine golden sand and transparent waters visitor can enjoy walks along the promenade to see the magnificent hues of
the foutains that make the evenings
magical.
These are the fountains situated
along the Jaume I Promenade, near to
the pleasure port. Visitors can enjoy a
unique light and music show during
the summer months. The jets of water create fanciful and bright patterns
to the sound of beautiful classical melodies. The walk itself is worth it along
one of the most popular promenades
on the Costa Daurada.

La Ermita de la Mare de
Déu de la Roca está al oeste de Mont-Roig del Camp.
La ermita ya se menciona en
documentos del año 1230,
por lo que la visita es obligada. La iglesia y la hotelería se
reconstruyeron después
de la destrucción francesa, en 1811. Encima de la ermita se alza la capilla de
Sant Ramon, construida en
1826 y que todavía hoy sirve de guía a los marineros.

LA ROCA HERMITAGE
◆ The Mare de Déu de la Roca Hermitage lies to the west of Mont-Roig. It is
mentioned in documents dating from
1230, so a visit is really a must. The
church and the hotel were reconstructed in after they were destroyed by the
French in 1811. The chapel of Saint Ramon, built in 1826 is above the hermitage and even today still serves as a reference point for sailors. It has become a
symbol of the region. The temple dedicated to Sant Ramon, is White and built
in a cubic form. The construction was
originally a feudal castle in the 13th
Century, and the main building is of
particular interest. There is a natural
viewpoint next to the hermitage reached
by a path through the rocks. The path
begins at the stairway with wooden
handrails in the car park. The visitor
can appreciate the curious open cavities in the sandstone rock. There are wonderful panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and the coastline

◆ Torredembarra is originally a fishing
village, but it is constantly changing
and becoming more modern. However, it maintains its cultural, historical
and natural values making it a unique place to visit.The village offers the visitor
a wealth of interesting features that
few can offer in the Costa Daurada.
Large beaches with first class water
sports, natural landscapes by the sea,
an old town with medieval forts and
streets with the essence of colonial times. All this and much more can be
found in Torredembarra, which has also added the lighthouse to its tourist heritage. It is the last lighthouse to have been
built in Spain in the 20th century, and was
designed by the architect Josep Maria Llinàs. It has a geographical reach of
20 miles and is the highest tower in Catalonia. The building is open to visitors

◆ The gothic style hospital
Situated in the centre of the town and
dating back to 1345 is the majestic old
hospital founded by the Infante Pere,
son of Jaume II and Blanca d’Anjou. It was
initially intended as a hospice for the pilgrims and walkers who went across
the Coll de Balaguer. This is where the
name of the town comes from. ‘L’Hospitalet de l’Infant’ is a refection of the
characteristics of the local people and
their hospitality.

◆ El manantial del Estany y del
Riuet se encuentra en la playa de Coma-ruga. El agua del
manantial nace en una surgencia de rocas calcáreas
del macizo de Bonastre y
desciende a bastante profundidad hasta llegar a Comaruga, donde aflora espontáneamente en la superficie. Actualmente, toda la
zona está urbanizada, pero
antiguamente este afloramiento formaba varios estanques de aguas termales tibias.
En el siglo XIX se descubrió
que de este manantial surgían
aguas con propiedades medicinales. A raíz de este descubrimiento, en los años
veinte del siglo XX se construyó un lujoso balneario, que significó el inicio de la urbanización del núcleo de Comaruga. Actualmente, el agua del
manantial está canalizada
hasta una fuente ornamental exterior, desde donde pasa al Estany y de aquí al Riuet,
el cual desemboca en la playa. Todo el año es habitual ver
personas tomando baños
para aprovechar sus propiedades curativas

THERMAL WATERS RIGHT ON
THE BEACH
◆ The natural spring sources of Estany and Riuet flow out onto the beach in
Coma-ruga. The source of the spring
is in the Bonastre Hills and it flows
down to Coma-ruga, where it surfaces. In the XIXth. Century they discovered that the waters had medecinal properties and consecuently built a luxury
spa centre located just near the housing
estates of Coma-ruga. This spring wáter is now channelled to flow out onto

El yacimiento más antiguo de Cataluña
◆ El yacimiento arqueológico del Barranc de
La Boella es posiblemente el más importante de Cataluña a raíz de los descubrimientos de los últimos años.
Este yacimiento se descubrió a principios del
siglo XX, pero no fue hasta 1970
cuando el excavó por primera vez
el arqueólogo Salvador Vilaseca.
Con esta primera excavación se
localizaron restos de elefante, ri-
noceronte, caballo,
ciervo y herramientas
de piedra. Las excavaciones de 2007 y 2008,
confirmaron la importancia del yacimiento ya
que se localizaron nuevos restos de mamut
(molares y defensas),
así como restos de hipopótamo, rinoceronte, ciervo, caballo y varios carnívoros. Junto con esta
fauna también se encontraron herramientas de sílex.

◆ Montblanc es uno de los más bellos conjuntos medievales de Cataluña, se trata de
uno de los puntos de mayor interés del interior de la Costa Daurada y está situado en
el corazón de la Ruta del Cister.
El recinto tiene una longitud de unos
1.700 metros de longitud con una altura media de 6 metros y un espesor de aproximado de 1,20 metros. Antiguamente todo el recinto estaba rodeado por un foso que daba más altura a las construcciones, en la
actualidad ha sido rellenado por tierra. A lo
largo de la historia, este conjunto monumental ha sufrido modificaciones y derribos, pero aún conserva rincones de interés como
la torre de las cinco esquinas o la torreportal del Bové, la única con las cuatro caras de piedra

ROMAN VILLA ‘ELS MUNTS’
◆ ?On the outskirts of the great Roman city
of Tarraco people established settlements
either to farm or simply for pleasure. One
of these was the Romana Villa “Els Munts”.
It is situated very near to Altafulla beach and
dates from I Century AD. The owner was Valerius Avitus, an important authority in
Tarraco, who lived there with his wife Faustina. In 1967, the Archaeological Museum
Tarragona took over the site and began excavations. Most of the valuable artefacts
found are now on show at the Museum. During the summer months, the Museum
organises dramatised visits to the site. The
Villa forms part of the large archaeological
site which comprises the remains of the Roman city Tarraco. It was declared a World
Heritage site by UNESCO in 2000. The Villa is open all year round everyday except

◆ This monument is an 13th. Century
aqueduct which was built to carry water from the canal along the city walls
to supply one of the mills in the city. Before it was built the water ran along the
ground but when the mill was built it was
necessary to elevate the flow of water.
One of the walls has a commemorative stone with a text in Latin which makes reference to the stone lagging carried out on the canal between .1539 and
1557 when restoration took place

La cueva de San Antonio es una sima
abierta en piedra caliza. La entrada actual
es artificial. Hoy en día, la sima de San Antonio se integra dentro de los recorridos señalizados para la práctica del senderismo
en Cunit. Se trata de un itinerario muy
atractivo que transcurre por senderos estrechos, tramos pedregosos y rampas cortas. la longitud es 6 kilómetros con una duración aproximada de 2 horas 30 minutos
y un desnivel 160metros. La primera excavación documentada data de principios
del siglo XX, concretamente del año 1928.
En aquella ocasión, los arqueólogos confirmaron que encontraron restos de piezas de
cerámica de 6.000 años de antigüedad y restos de huesos de al menos 9 individuos.

in the limestone rock. The current entrance to the cove is an artificial opening. It is one of the places to visit on the
walks around the village of Cunit. It is
part of a very attractive itinerary which
follows narrow paths, stony routes
and short ramps. The whole route is 6
kilometres long, rises about 160 a.s.l. and
takes the walker about 2 hours and a half
to finish
