FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK…
Dear Parishioners and Friends of St. Francis de Sales Parish,
Jesus told his disciples, “Ask and you shall receive, seek
and you shall find, knock and the door shall be opened to
you.” (Luke 11:9) God will always respond, but we need to
be persistent in prayer, constantly knocking at the door.
In today’s Gospel, Jesus’ disciples approach Jesus with a
request: “Lord, teach us to pray.” (Luke 11:1b) The disciples,
of course, already knew how to pray, but when they observed
Jesus in prayer, they knew his way of praying was different.
His prayer was intense, intimate and constant. That is the kind
of prayer the disciples desired for themselves. When Jesus
taught his disciples the “Lord’s Prayer,” he taught them to
approach God confidently and ask directly and persistently for
their needs.
When we pray the Lord’s Prayer, we are praying a prayer
made up of petitions. We ask God for that his name be kept
holy among all peoples of the earth, and that his kingdom
come to fulfillment. We pray that God’s will be the center of
our lives. We ask for our basic necessities, our daily bread. We
ask that we be forgiven for our failings, and that we learn to
forgive others. We pray that we be kept free from temptation
and sin.
The Lord’s Prayer helps us to realize that everything
comes from God. He will provide us with all we need. With
confidence, we pray: “Thy kingdom come!”
God’s Blessings,
Fr. Jim Schuerman
enséñanos a orar.”
Padre Jim Schuerman

PLEASE PRAY FOR...
Please pray for our teens who will be
attending the Stuebenville at the Lake Youth
Conference this weekend July 22-24 in
Kenosha. There will be 2,500 teens gathered
to pray together, listen to dynamic speakers,
adore the Lord in adoration, praise God
through singing and dancing, attend mass
and most attendees receive the Sacrament of
Reconciliation. For some this is an
opportunity experience God on a personal
level for the first time and others develop a
greater zeal to be a witness for Christ.
After the conference concludes on
Sunday over a dozen teens (about half of
which will have attended the conference)
will be heading to Harlan, Kentucky to serve
the poor and elderly with Catholic Mission
Trips, Inc. They will be spending the week
painting and helping with light construction
or landscape work as needed.
“For even the Son of man did not come
to be served but to serve, and to give His life
as a ransom for many.” (Mark 10:45)
