Guidelines to create and write the recipe to be submitted for being
selected to participate in a Masterclass
In order to be eligible for the selection, the recipe must comply with the following
rules:
• The recipe must be the contestant’s original and personal creation
• The recipe must contain at least 1.5 CL of Disaronno Originale
3
• The recipe cannot include more than 5 ingredients, including fruit juices,
syrups, drops, sauces, bitters and condiments. In addition, you may
vaporise over the drink a zest of citrus fruits; in this case, the zest must
be explicitly indicated in the recipe as garnish
• Garnishes are not considered ingredients
• When filling out the registration form, each ingredient must be explicitly
indicated in the appropriate field, together with its brand or kind
• The amount of the ingredients used must be expressed in CL, with the
exception of bitters, sauces and condiments, whose amount can be
expressed in drops or splashes
• The use of home-made ingredients, such as creams, syrups, tea, jam,
etc., is not allowed
• You must indicate in the registration form the type of ice used, as well as
the type of glass in which the cocktail is served, by selecting the items
from the drop-down list provided; if the contestant intends to use different
types from those suggested, it must be explicitly indicated in the
description field of the preparation
• The technique used to prepare the drink is free and must be indicated in
the registration form, by selecting from the drop-down list the appropriate
item among: Building, Shaking and Straining, Blending, Layering, Stirring
or Muddling; if the technique is different from those included in the list,
you need to specify it in the description field of the preparation.
Elements that positively affect the assessment
The expert will consider favourably the following elements:
• The taste of the recipe best expresses the characteristics of Disaronno
Originale
• In the description field of the registration form, the contestant has
accurately described in details the preparation
• The recipe has features of repeatability (hence, the choice of ingredients
must take into account the availability of the ingredients, both locally and
internationally)
• The recipe can be prepared easily and should be suitable for a wide
variety of bars.
Grounds for exclusion of the recipe
The registration form will be deemed incorrect and, accordingly, excluded from
the expert’s selection, if:
• The recipe does not comply with the rules set out above
• The drink cannot be considered a contestant’s original creation
• The name given to the drink overlaps, even partially, with third parties’
trade marks, logos or distinctive marks, or the cocktail violates third
parties’ rights; the name is offensive, vulgar or contains words and
expressions of sexual nature, refers to the names of drugs, cars or
motorbikes. The same rules apply to the description of the ingredients
and, in general, to the text of the recipe. In any case, the acceptance of
the cocktail’s name is subject to the final decision of Illva Saronno S.p.A.
4
B) SELECTION OF THE RECIPES
The recipe selection of the bartenders duly registered will be carried out by
31/05/16. During the selection, a mixology expert operating in the hospitality
field appointed by the promoting company will assess all the recipes duly
uploaded on the website, by giving to each of them a mark in accordance with
the criteria set out below.

During this stage, in order to better assess the criteria, the expert may request a
professional bartender appointed by the promoting company to prepare the
cocktails.
In order to determine the ranking in the event of a tie between two or more
contestants, consideration will be given to the highest mark assigned to the first
of the criteria set out in the table and, in the event of a further tie, in turn, to the
subsequent criteria. In case of another tie, a draw will take place among the tied
contestants.
On the basis of the highest marks assigned, the expert, for each Masterclass
that will take place, will compile the ranking of the best contestants and will
appoint some substitute, according to the ranking, who will be contacted if any
of the selected contestants cannot be reached or has not complied with the
participation rules. Specifically, a raking of at least 15 up to 25 best contestants
will be compiled.
C) PARTICIPATION TO THE MASTERCLASSES
The selected contestants will have access to the Masterclasses (minimum 15
maximum 25 contestants for each Masterclass), which will take place from
13/06/2016 to 24/06/2016 in Madrid, Barcelona and Seville, at a venue to be
determined.
The Masterclasses’ venues will be later communicated to the bartenders
selected for participation. We point out that the cities and the dates of the
Masterclasses may change, due to organizational needs. Any change will be
promptly communicated to the contestants.
Seats on the Masterclasses will be assigned according to geographical
proximity to the location and, secondarily, by giving priority of choice to the
contestants with higher ranking positions.
5
Any transport and accommodation cost for participating to the Masterclass will
be paid by the contestant. No expense refund will be provided.
By 06/06/2016, the bartenders selected for the Masterclasses will be notified by
e-mail to the address given during the registration. If there is no reply by
10/06/2016, or in case of incomplete/wrong, inappropriate or false data, the
contestant will lose the right to participate to the Masterclasses and to the
following stage of the selection; we will proceed to contact the first available
substitute.
Names of the contestants selected for the Masterclasses will be communicated
via e-mail to all participants.

THE MASTERCLASSES
Conditions of preparation
During the Masterclasses, a Mystery Box will be given to the contestants,

be assessed by the jury.

cocktail based on the content of the Mystery Box, taking into account
that:

o The relevant recipe shall be a personal and original creation of the
contestant
• After 6 minutes, the contestant has 5 more minutes to make the cocktail
(including the presentation)
• During these 5 minutes, more than one cocktail may be made, provided
that, when the time is over, the contestant shall submit only 1 cocktail to
the assessment of the jury
• If the 5-minute time limit is not met, the judges will assign the contestant
a penalty set out in the table (-1 mark for each extra minute, up to a
maximum of 5 minutes)
• The garnish shall be arranged within the time limit of the cocktail’s
preparation
• The garnish can be put on toothpicks, straws or other accessories
commonly used in a bar
• The contestants serving cocktails that are not safe to drink or using
unsanitary preparation methods will be disqualified.
Ingredients/garnishes and tools

• A Mystery Box containing several secret ingredients, Disaronno Originale
and some garnish
• A complete tool set for the preparation, including a set of glasses.
6
The contestants explicitly acknowledge that the judges, during the selection, will
not be able to consume the entire cocktail, but will taste a small quantity of it.
SELECTION OF THE BARTENDERS AT THE END OF THE MASTERCLASS
At the end of the trial the jury, composed of a mixology expert appointed by the
promoting company, of the owner of the location where the Masterclass will be
taking place, and of one or more persons working in the industry to be
determined by Illva Saronno S.p.A. among the following categories: journalists,

bartender Simon Difford.
In order to participate to this final stage, at the end of the Masterclass the top 5
contestants must choose 1 cocktail style, among the following 5 available:

given the first choice; subsequently, the others will choose according to the
ranking order, until every available style is picked.
If the first-ranked contestants will refuse to enter the final stage or will not
comply with the conditions of participation, the substitutes will be contacted
according to the ranking. The “Grounds for exclusion” set out above, concerning
the suitability of the recipe, apply to this stage as well.

CHOICE OF THE TOP 5 CONTESTANTS
The contestants selected at the end of the Masterclasses (5 for each

same rules for creating and making the recipes set out above; in this case,
special attention should be paid to the cocktail style chosen at the end of
the Masterclass, which should be "reflected" and "communicated" by the
recipe.
The recipes shall be sent by e-mail to the ambassador of the promoting
company by 08/07/2016, to the address communicated at the end of the
