Dear Parents,
As Spring approaches so do thoughts of exciting events such as our Drama performances, May 12,
13 & 14 , Band and String concerts June 7, Chorus concert June 9, Dance club performance May 26,
the 8th grade celebrations, and numerous field trips. Be sure to read the PTSA Blast and check your
email for upcoming events at Central Middle School.
April 11is the last day of the marking period. The report cards will be distributed on April 19. As students enter their fourth and final marking period on April 12, it is a good time to remind them to stay
focused. Their social life, team sports and end of the year events become huge distracters. It is important that both home and school are encouraging students to make good choices.
We have just completed our registration for the 2016-2017 school year. Thank you to everyone who
returned their forms on time. Our staffing is being adjusted to our enrollment and we are presently
building the new master schedule.
Every effort is made to honor all encore choices , however there may have to be some adjustment to
balance students across the encore schedule for morning and afternoon sections. Unfortunately when
a class is only offered in the morning or afternoon we cannot always accommodate students 1st, 2nd
or 3rd choices. We will notify students and parents of any adjustment we make. Schedules will be
available to students on their first day of school August.22 or 23. The sixth graders will get theirs on
their first day August 22.
The eighth graders are reminded that office referrals or suspensions from school will disqualify them
from attending the end of the year eighth grade celebrations. Planning is underway for our eighth
grade celebrations. The eighth grade teachers will be planning awards ceremonies and other events
after spring break.
Eighth grade parents should be on the look out for more information to come.
The counselors are working with teams and parents to support students in danger of failing this year.
Ms. Beall is holding conferences with students and parents to explore strategies to help struggling
student be successful. Our goal is to have no child fail any grade while in middle school. A failure in
middle school significantly decreases a students chances of graduating from high school. Working
together we can prevent failure. Please contact your child’s counselor if you have concerns about
your child.
I hope you will check our calendar on the school website for upcoming events. Our students give
quality performances and I encourage you to come out and support the arts at Central Middle this
spring.
Sincerely,
Millie Beall
Principal

From the Guidance Office….
Just a reminder that if
you will be transferring out of Central Middle over the summer or not going on to South River High School next year,
please contact Mrs. Donnelly in the Guidance office prior to
the final week of school. You will need to withdraw and obtain transfer papers for your new enrollment.
All Parents and Visitors must have a government issued ID in hand upon entrance to our building.
NO exceptions!
Our Mission
All Students will
achieve high levels
of performance on
quality standards
through active
engagement in
instruction tailored
to their needs and
interests.
Video Camera System/V-Soft School Security
CMS is equipped with a video
camera system. It covers selected interior and exterior public portions of the building/
grounds.
It is NOT monitored constantly,
but is monitored during emergency situations. During events
when the safety or security of
students may be in question,
authorized personnel from local, state or federal police or
fire emergency units may be
given access to view images
projected on the camera system. If you have any questions
about the system, you should
call the supervisor of School
Security at 410-222-5083.
V-Soft by Raptor Ware…..
When you visit our
school you will be
asked to present a government/state issued
photo ID (i.e Driver’s
License) to a staff person in
the school office. The ID will be
scanned and the following information collected: your photo,
name and date of birth. This
information will be utilized to
check you in, create an ID
badge, and compare your information against sexual offender
databases throughout the
county.
If your name appears on the list
or you refuse to allow the use
of your ID, you will NOT be allowed access to the school.
You will also be asked to check
out with the office upon leaving. The information will not be
shared outside of the school
and is kept on a secure server.
Your assistance in keeping students safe is appreciated.

REMINDER FOR PARENTS AND STUDENTS
If your student feels ill during the school day, please let them know to
report to the Health Room (located near the main office). The Health
Room staff will assess the student and then call a parent. Students are

While many families wish to bring lunch for their students and their
friends, Central Middle discourages this and asks you to not bring in
outside food for other students.
Not only is it disruptive, but it competes with our school cafeteria and
could cause conflicts with parents who do not wish their student being
served food brought in by others.
Thank you for your cooperation.
NEW! IMMUNIZATION—Parents and Guardians
All students entering 7th grade are required to have one Tdap vaccination and one Meningococcal vaccination to begin the 2016-17 school
year. Please provide documentation of these vaccines to the school
nurse as soon as possible. Students who are not compliant with immunization records must be excluded from school on the first day of
classes unless parents/guardians provide proof of an upcoming vaccination appointment within 20 calendar days (30 days for military
families). If you are unable to get an appointment with your child’s
health care provider, please call Anne Arundel County Department of
Health’s Immunization Services at 410-222-4896
As we close out the third marking period, 7th grade French 1A students have been exploring their likes and dislikes and how these preferences shape the idea of accepting or declining invitations . Students have
been relying on many already established English skills as they master
these new French concepts and vocabulary.
Next, we will be moving on to where, how often and how well leisure activities are performed as we continue to discover what French and
Americans do for fun. Students who may feel they need an extra boost
should be attending Help Days on Tuesdays afterschool! Remember, help
is also just a click away at the textbook website at https://my.hrw.com
Enter your special password and choose a unite to explore! Need extra
credit? Keep your eyes and ears open for French opportunities!
Students have finished puzzling about
their personalities and possessions. If
you are visiting the building, check out
our huge puzzle in Mrs. Yuan’s room 104.
We are now going places with unit 5 vocabulary which is all about
communities! Students have explored their own houses and communities
and have ventured out into French towns to discover some of the high
speed transports of France!
Students who may feel they need an extra boost should be attending Help Days on Tuesdays afterschool! Students can continue to practice
on their textbook website at https://my.hrw.com . Enter your special
password and choose a unité to explore. Keep an eye out for French
Spring fashions which will open our next and final unit!
We are continuing our Collège
Châteaucoin exchange and sent a dazzling
Easter egg cultural “basket” to France in March. We continue to appreciate the generosity of the grant from the PTSA which funds
our postage in this cultural discovery project.
We draw ever closer to our French Week extravaganza April 18-22!
Our theme this year is “L’Espoir, la Victoire”—bringing Hope to people
who do not have adequate access to clean water and sanitation and being
Victorious in our fundraising efforts! Please see the separate article in
this newsletter. Our creativity is really starting to heat up as Spring approaches! Watch out CMS!—the Quarter Wars will be bigger and better
than ever before! We are raising funds for our French Canadian charity
OneDrop.org. and selling souvenir bracelets. Commit. Act. Join us!

PARENT DONATIONS ALSO WELCOMED!
ONE DROP is an initiative of Guy Laliberté, founder of Cirque
du Soleil. He is a strong believer that the Arts can help change the
world. This non-profit organization was founded in Montréal, Canada in 2007. The purpose is to develop access-to-water and sanitation
projects in countries around the world where water is lacking and to
help raise awareness among individuals and communities on waterrelated issues to adopt sound habits for managing this precious resource for future generations. Sustainability is the goal.
Currently One Drop initiatives are running in Nicaragua, Honduras, Haiti, El Salvador, India, and Burkina Faso. Since Cirque du
Soleil pays for all administrative costs, 100% of donations to One
Drop go to fund these projects!
For ONE DROP, harnessing the creativity of artists and communities to underline the importance of water is second nature! Water inspires artists who, in turn, inspire communities. A work of art
can stimulate the imagination, suggest innovative solutions and unite
people dealing with a particular issue. Water unites us all. ONE
DROP seeks to be an agent of change and sustainable influence in the world.

Connecting You and Your Child to Information on Our Journey to Greatness
The evidence is consistent, positive, and convincing: families have a major influence on
their children’s achievement. When schools, families, and community groups work
together to support learning, children tend to do better in school, stay in school longer,
and like school more.” Anne T. Henderson, Karen L. Mapp

“La evidencia es consistente, positiva y convincente: las familias tienen una gran
influencia en el rendimiento de sus hijos. Cuando las escuelas, las familias y los grupos
de la comunidad trabajan juntos para apoyar el aprendizaje, los niños tienden a mejorar
en la escuela, permanecer en la escuela por más tiempo y les gusta más la escuela.”
