Linda: Di certo Baricco si è misurato qui con un mito letterario; e devo dire che mi aspettavo
qualcosa di più.
Però mi è piaciuto rispolverare certi eroi, ricordare che ci sono opere da un respiro talmente
ampio che riescono a sottolineare quanto sia limitata la propria esperienza. Mi è piaciuta la sua
personalissima idea di personificare il racconto, facendolo ora di Criseide, ora di Agamennone,
ora di Achille, ora di Elena, ora di Patroclo. Non mi è piaciuta la decisione di tagliare fuori gli
dei..credo che manchi molto, e che sia percepibile. A tratti sembra in effetti di leggere un elenco
di morti e feriti così. Comunque, non mi sarei avvicinata adesso ad un'altra versione dell'Iliade,
e solo per questo si guadagna (di nuovo) il mio consenso.
Nota di merito alle ultime pagine, in cui Baricco ci spiega perché ha voluto rileggere l'Iliade, un
inno alla Guerra, e perché, per certi versi, l'opera non è affatto un inno alla guerra, ma si profila
nelle parole e nei gesti dei propri eroi la contemplazione di un mondo possibile senza di essa,
senza il combattimento estremo e la morte, seppur gloriosa, per mano di un altro uomo.
Petergiaquinta: Reading Margaret Atwood's Penelopiad made me think of this book, a reimagining of the events surrounding Homer's Iliad (and a bit of The Odyssey) as told through
the voices of a number of the characters. I pulled this book off the "new" shelf at my public
library, so I probably read it in 2006. It's okay, and if you like Homer then I assume you'd more
or less like what Baricco is trying to do here. Nonetheless, there seem to be a number of
diehard Iliad fanatics on GoodReads who are troubled by Barrico's monkeying with their sacred
text, similar to how some readers of Atwood's Penelopiad rejected what she was doing in her
book.
Me, I'm not bothered a bit. I'm aware that folks have been re-imagining the Greek myths and the
stories of Homer for the past three millenia. (These same tight-ass readers must really get their
panties in a bunch when they read Philoctetes--the nerve of that Sophocles guy! What's he think
he's doing with Odysseus's character?!?)
I especially enjoyed Barrico's "Demodocus" chapter and keep a copy of it in my Odyssey files.
Demodocus is the bard at the Phaeacian court of Alcinous where Odysseus finds himself near
the end of his journeys. Demodocus sings the story of the Horse and the Fall of Troy, and as
Odysseus listens he begins to weep. Barrico's retelling and expansion of the scene feels right to
me, and it is powerfully done.

Belén: Meh. No tenía muchas expectativas con este libro; todas mis aspiraciones respecto a las
adaptaciones de l. a. Ilíada desaparecieron con los angeles canción de Aquiles. Nada puede

mal. En primer lugar, su objetivo period que fuera posible leer l. a. Ilíada en público en poco

ApettaVale: Non mi sento di dare un voto a questo libro, perchè sarebbe dare un voto all'Iliade
e non al lavoro di Baricco... Diciamo che sicuramente è riuscito nel suo intento di "umanizzare"
l'Iliade, però a parer mio è un passaggio inutile. Quando lessi l'Iliade anni fa los angeles adorai
subito, quindi questa rivisitazione, unita ai vari tagli, los angeles vedo un po' come uno stupro...
Insomma, in generale mi è piaciuto leggerlo, ma perchè mi piace appunto l'Iliade, e mi ha fatto
venir voglia di rileggerla; le parti aggiunte da Baricco invece il più delle volte mi sono sembrate
inutili e scontate, come se stesse spiegando l'opera a dei bambini delle elementari...
