MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of our community is rooted in Jesus the Christ.
This mission is to hear, respond to and proclaim the word of God
as found in the Hebrew and Christian scriptures.
Through the Sunday Eucharist we are called to ongoing
conversion and personal spiritual formation. As a community, we
are challenged to provide mutual support for a Catholic Christian
lifestyle and are empowered to use our gifts to minister to the
needs of others. We commit ourselves to the beatitudes, to the
spiritual and corporal works of mercy, and to minister to the
larger communities in which we live and work. We respect the
dignity of every person, at all ages and stages of life. We hand
on our Catholic heritage through catechesis, worship, service and
witness.
In carrying out this mission we further the kingdom of God in
our midst.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
After forty days in the in the wilderness of “our journey” and as
we enter the Third Sunday of Easter, some of us are perhaps diminishing in
our “zeal” for the risen Lord. Perhaps the purpose, focus, vibrancy, and
the intensity of past few weeks are wearing a little thin. It is possible
that we find ourselves slipping quietly into our pre-Lenten and Easter
habits . . . and God forbid that we retreat back to some of our well worn
ways of living.
The Readings for this weekend generally point to the weaknesses of
humanity and our often poor practice of our faith. This fact is especially
true as we move further from a high and focused spiritual point of
religious celebrations of the Holy Weeks and as we get back to the
“normalcy” of our lives. The demands, challenges, and the tribulations
sometimes easily distract us from what is truly important and that is the
critically important meaning of the death and resurrection of Jesus.
During Lent, we are called to conversion, to confessing our wrong
doing (sins), to seek a rebirth of baptismal faith, and to repent. . . that is
to be transformed as humanely and personally possible to the likeness
and example of Jesus. From Easter we should have emerged
“resurrected” by believing and witnessing the resurrection of our Lord.
But, it is not enough that we believe and that we are listening, we must
be active in our response to the promise of salvation given to us by the
love, death, and resurrection available to us only through the risen
Christ.
Take heart, trust, and exude a vigorous confidence in our Lord’s
protection of the just and be near to God through Jesus’ righteousness.
Jesus is our advocate only if we keep his commandments. Let us
therefore love as he did, let us live in the light and disdain the darkness.
We should strive to live our lives with purpose as children of God and
constantly asking Jesus. . .”Lord, let your face shine on us.”

Apreciados Hermanos y Hermanas en Cristo,
Después de los 40 días en el desierto como “nuestra jornada” al
entrar al Tercer Domingo de Pascua, algunos de nosotros quizás
estemos regresando poco a poco a los hábitos que teníamos antes
de la cuaresma...y Dios no lo permita que algunos de nosotros
regresemos a algunas maneras de vivir ya muy gastadas.
Las lecturas de este fin de semana generalmente apuntan a la
debilidad de la humanidad y a la fe insípida. Este hecho es realmente
cierto cuando nos movemos de un punto altamente religioso y
espiritual como lo es la Semana Santa a nuestra vida cotidiana. Las
demandas, los retos y las tribulaciones nos distraen fácilmente de
lo que es importante; el significado de la muerte y resurrección de
Jesucristo.
Durante la Cuaresma, se nos llama a la conversión, a confesar
nuestros pecados , a renacer a la fe bautismal y a arrepentirnos.. Esto
es a ser transformados como humana y personalmente es posible; a
ser y seguir el ejemplo de Jesús. De la cuaresma deberíamos emerger
resucitados al creer y testificar la resurrección de nuestro Señor. Pero,
no es suficiente que creamos lo que escuchamos, sino que seamos
activos en la respuesta a la promesa de la salvación que se nos ha
sido dada por el amor, muerte y resurrección hecha posible para
todos solo a través de Cristo resucitado.
Abre tu corazón y confía en la protección de nuestro Señor justo, y
mantente cercas de Dios a través de la rectitud de Jesús. Jesús es
nuestro abogado si guardamos sus mandamientos. Por lo tanto
amemos como el amó, vivamos en la luz y no en las tinieblas.
Esforcémonos por vivir nuestras vidas como hijos de Dios y
digámosle constantemente a Jesús…”Señor, muéstranos tu rostro”.

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
With the Easter season well under way,
we now resume our survey of the sacrament of
the sick. The pastoral care of the sick will be
misunderstood if we start from the vantage point
of the sickroom. Begin with the Sunday
assembly, from which the sick person has
been separated by the crisis of illness, and
whose absence is given expression in prayer
and service. The goal is to extend the
consolation of the Lord’s presence at the
table to those who are apart from it, and for
the assembly to enfold them in prayer.
Secondarily, the goal is to teach people
what the Church desires for all those who are
sick. Seeing ministers dispatched to the sick
from Mass every Sunday might help a
caregiver realize that their dear one can
also receive Communion. Witnessing the
anointing of a woman facing surgery might help
another person to overcome hesitation and
ask for the sacrament’s healing and strength.
Society’s impulse may be to marginalize the
sick, but the tradition of our community is to
see them at the center of our life. When
Roman persecutors ordered St. Lawrence
the Deacon to hand over the jewels of the
church, he assembled a motley crew of the
sick and the infirm and announced with all
humility, “Behold, my lord, the treasures of
the church of Christ.”

TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE
Los cristianos somos ¡testigos de Cristo
resucitado! Testimoniamos todo lo relacionado
con Jesús de Nazaret quien murió en una
cruz, fue sepultado y resucitó al tercer día.
Debemos ser personas que cantan y gritan
¡Resucitó, Aleluya! Tan importante es la
resurrección de Cristo que, mientras tenemos
cuarenta días de Cuaresma hay cincuenta
días de Pascua en el calendario cristiano.
Durante esta época, domingo tras domingo
mediante la proclamación del Evangelio se
nos transmiten escenas de Cristo, quien
cada ocho días se aparecía a sus discípulos
confirmando cada Domingo que en verdad
había resucitado, instruyéndolos para que
pudieran ser verdaderos testigos de su
resurrección.
Y ¿tú? ¿Cuán buen testigo eres? Un buen
testigo da testimonio de lo que ha visto,
escuchado y experimentado. Para ser testigo
de Cristo hay que verlo, escucharlo y experimentarlo. La Iglesia nos da la oportunidad de
verlo, escucharlo y experimentarlo diariamente,
en especial durante el domingo. Esto es
posible sólo si durante la semana vives con
el corazón abierto. Abierto para ver, escuchar
y experimentar a Jesús en tu hogar, en tu
trabajo, entre tus parientes y amistades.
