TODAY’S READINGS
First Reading — The souls of the just are in the
hands of God, and no torment shall touch them.
Psalm — The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing
I shall want.
Second Reading — Hope does not disappoint,
because the love of God has been poured out into
our hearts.
Gospel — This is the will of the Father, that
everyone who sees the Son and believes may have
eternal life.
2
LOOKING TO THE LAST DAY
Today the Church remembers all who have
walked the way of Christ and passed from this life.
The readings all look to the last day, when we shall
all rise from the dead and be reunited.
The prophet Daniel announces words of warning
and welfare. He cautions us against the judgment to
come, but he also comforts us and assures us that
all who live a life of virtue and justice will find life
eternal.
The reading from Romans reminds us that,
because of Christ’s passion, death, and resurrection
and our entrance into that paschal mystery through
baptism, we now share in the new life won by
Christ. This recognition has repercussions: we need
to live righteously now, that we might rise to life
forever with Christ on the last
day.
In the Gospel Jesus
pledges that all the Father has
given him will not be lost. All
the faithful will be raised to joy
and live forever in the
presence of God.

CREATED FOR JOY
We are more than an accident of evolution. We
are greater than the sum of our biology. God
exists. He is good. He loves us. He made us in him
image to share in his joy. He takes an active hand
in our lives. He sent his only Son to restore our
dignity and lead us home to him.

CHILDREN’S BOOKS & BEANS-ANNIVERSARY
During the last two years Books and Beans Ministry
has collected over 27,000 pounds of beans and over
3,000 books! This would not be possible without the
amazing generosity of the parishioners of our parish.
Books and Beans would like to thank all who have
contributed to this ministry through their time and
donations.
However, we still have much to do and many hungry
families to help. Please consider making a donation of
beans. As always they can be dropped off at the bins
set up under the tables in the back of the Church
where they will be collected weekly.
We are still in need of Spanish language children’s
books.

OLA’S GOOD SHEPHERD MINISTRY
Our Lady of the Assumption’s “Casserole
Cooking” ministry provides good, hot meals to our
community’s homeless and hungry men, women
and children of our city. The Good Shepherd
Center staff has provided our parish the recipes and
covered containers. All we have to do is follow a
recipe, make a casserole, freeze it, and return it to
the parish office.
Come to the Parish office during regular business
hours to pick up recipes and an aluminum casserole
pan, take them home and make the meal of your
choice; then return the completed casserole
frozen, labeled and dated to the parish office.
For more information, please contact the Parish
office at 256-9818. OLA’s Casserole Cooking is a
simple way to give of your time, talent and treasure.
Your generosity will make the difference in feeding
our city’s poor, homeless and hungry.
