From The Pastor’s Desk
Dear Parishioners,
In April of 2012, the Ad Hoc Committee on Religious Liberty of the U.S. Conference of
Catholic Bishops issued a document, “Our First, Most Cherished Liberty.” This outlined the
bishop’s concerns over threats to religious freedom at home and abroad. The bishops of the
United States called for a “Fortnight for Freedom.” This is a 14-day period of prayer,
education and action in support of religious freedom. This year it is taking place around the
country from June 21 – July 4, 2015.
In the Diocese of Rockville Centre, the two-week event began with a Rally at Chaminade
High School for Religious Freedom, called Freedom to Bear Witness.
The Fortnight Opening Mass was held at St. Agnes Cathedral, June 21, 11 a.m.
Rally for Religious Freedom, Robert P. George, Keynote speaker at
Chaminade High School was held on June 25, 7:30 p.m.
The closing Mass for the Diocese will be Fortnight Closing Mass,
St. Agnes Cathedral, July 4, 9 a.m.
As Catholics we all think of this important Fortnight for Freedom as we celebrate
Independence Day on July 4th
As we prepare to celebrate our nations independence, on July 4, let us remember that our
country was founded on the principles of religious liberty and freedom.
During this important time in our country’s history and the practice of our faith and all other
faiths let us pray for the Holy Spirit’s guidance. Let us pray together:
PRAYER FOR RELIGIOUS FREEDOM:
Almighty God, Father of all nations, for freedom you have set us free in Christ Jesus. GALATIANS 5:1
We praise and bless you for the gift of religious liberty, the foundation of human rights,
justice, and the common good.
Grant to our leaders the wisdom to protect and promote our liberties; by your grace may we have the
courage to defend them, for ourselves and for all those who live in this blessed land.
We ask this through the intercession of Mary Immaculate, our patroness, and in the name of your
Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, with whom you live and reign, one God,
forever and ever, Amen.

vida. Tomado de la Homilía de Mons. Oscar Romero, 1 de julio de 1979

Stewardship
Reflection
Today’s reading
from St. Paul explains the “divine
economy” of stewardship. The relief
of others ought not to impoverish
you; there should be a certain
equality. Your plenty should supply
their need so their surplus may in
turn one day supply your need.
