MANIFESTING THE SPIRIT
The Christmas season closes this Sunday
with the Baptism of the Lord. This feast is a
sister to last week’s feast of the Epiphany.
Each of them celebrates an “epiphany,” or a
manifestation of the Spirit of God in Jesus—
first in his birth, and now at his baptism.
The divine Spirit is manifested in all of
the scriptures for this feast. Psalm 104 highlights the Spirit of God creating and renewing
the earth, while the reading from Isaiah describes God restoring Israel. In Luke’s account of the baptism of the Lord the Holy
Spirit descends upon Jesus. And the letter to
Titus reminds us that the Holy Spirit was
“richly poured out” on us also, through the
“bath of rebirth” (Titus 3:5, 6).

El Bautismo del Señor
Ministerio Hispano
MANIFESTANDO AL ESPÍRITU
El tiempo de Navidad finaliza este domingo con el Bautismo del Señor. Esta fiesta
es hermana de la fiesta de la semana pasada,
la Epifanía. Cada una ellas celebra una
“epifanía”, o manifestación del Espíritu de
Dios en Jesús —primero en su nacimiento y
ahora en su bautismo.
El Espíritu Divino se manifiesta en todas
las lecturas bíblicas de la fiesta. El Salmo
104 destaca al Espíritu de Dios que crea y
renueva la tierra, mientras que la lectura de
Isaías describe a Dios restaurando a Israel.
En el relato de Lucas del bautismo del Señor
el Espíritu Santo desciende sobre Jesús. Y la
carta a Tito nos recuerda que el Espíritu Santo también “derramó con abundancia” sobre
nosotros, el “baño de regeneración” (Tito
3:5, 6).

An Icon of the Holy Family will be on display at
San Sebastian Parish from January 15th - January 22th 2016

The Knights of Columbus has started a new Directive this year. They have been instructed
to help build the Domestic Church. To do this they will be working with Youth groups
and Families. The First imitative is a Holy Family Prayer Program. An image of a painting done by Giovanni Battista Salvi da Sassoferrato in the 1600’s is on a pilgrimage thru
out our State. We are blessed to have this image during our Parish feast Day. There will be
prayer books with the image so we can pray for our families. The future of the world and
the Church passes thru the family observed St. John Paul II, whom Pope Francis called the
Pope of the Family.

and to all our friends, parishioners and church family. The
contribu ons, me and food for the recep on following the
Memorial Mass for Ron was deeply moving to us. Thank you

OUTREACH OPPORTUNITIES
RECYCLING FUNDRAISING PROGRAM - ALUMINUM CANS (Beer & Soda cans only) behind the Knights
Hall. Paper Dumpster available in the front parking lot. No phone books, no plastic bags.
Box Tops for Education - Look for the official Box Top for Education on different food products. We
also accept coke reward Codes, Sunny D Labels, and Kellogg's Family Reward Codes Donation Box will be
located in the gathering space. For more information contact Karen Town 940-6877
Food Drive - Please bring non-perishable food items for needy families in our community every 3rd
weekend of the month. Thank you for your continuing generosity.
Diaper Drive -Diaper Drive for diapers & wipes to be donated to St. Gerard House. We can only accept
donations that are packaged. A basket for your donations is available in the Gathering Space For more info,

Food & Fun Fridays - 4th Friday of the Month - San Sebastian hosts a meal from 2pm–4pm for
the elderly and those on fixed incomes. If you have a neighbor or friend who would benefit from this event,
invite them to join us. To Volunteer . please contact Susan Donlon at the church office 824-6625 ext 107.
Food Sharing of St. Augustine - An evening meal for the homeless in St. Aug. the 3rd Tuesday of
the month at 2pm. To volunteer for this great community outreach contact Lydia Quiles 687-8169 or email

Donations needed for the homeless in St. Augustine - needed are small travel sizes: shampoo, soap, deodorant, toothpaste, washcloth, toothbrushes, combs, socks, hand sanitizer, Band-Aids,
Neosporin, tweezers, nail clippers, razors, sunscreen, sunglasses, adult sizes . Donation basket located
in the gathering space.
St. Augustine Health and Rehabilitation Center, Mass - celebrated every 3rd Friday of the
month at 10:00am.
St. Johns County Pet Adoption & Holding Center - A donation basket is located in the Gathering Space. needs: pet foods, treats, blankets, towels, and toys.
The Corporal Works of Mercy - “People who want to do good things for people in need”. The following organizations in St. Johns County need your time & talent: Catholic Charities, Community Hospice, St. Gerard House, St. Francis House, Salvation Army, Council on Aging, St. Vincent De Paul Society, Habitat for Humanity, United Way of St. Johns, Homeless Coalition, Welfare Federation of St. Johns,
