Colorado Springs advanced from “Active” to “Fit” status
in LiveWell Colorado’s HEAL cities and towns campaign
by adopting new policies in three of the Campaign’s focus
areas aimed at improving access to healthy eating and active
living (HEAL). Colorado Springs adopted three policies to
achieve “Fit” level: healthy work place, Improved access to

SECAHEC introduces mental
health first aid in Pueblo
Southeastern Colorado Area Health Education Center
(SECAHEC) is initiating the Mental Health First Aid program in Pueblo. SECAHEC will train members of the public
to improve mental health literacy – helping them identify,
understand and respond to signs of mental illness.
“We are thrilled to bring Mental Health First Aid to our
community,” said Doreen Gonzales, Executive Director,
Southeastern Colorado AHEC. “This important educational
effort goes a lot further than emergency intervention; it really
helps people understand the shroud of fear and misjudgment
facing individuals and families who experience mental illnesses and addiction. It will help rid this community of the associated stigma and move more and more people toward recovery.”

Name Denver Zoo’s lion cubs
As a thank you to voters who support the Scientific &
Cultural Facilities District (SCFD), Denver Zoo is asking
residents of the seven-county region to name its two, newborn, African lion cubs through an online contest. The cubs,
a male and a female, were born on the morning of Thursday,
September 10 to lioness Neliah, and are currently with their
mother behind the scenes in the Zoo’s Benson Predator
Ridge exhibit.
The first phase of the contest will run until Friday,
Sept. 25, at 12 p.m. Those interested in participating

and be a resident of one of the following SCFD counties:
Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Broomfield, Denver, Douglas or

the process of normalization between the two countries in

Habitat Exchange. “It’s inspiring to see Colorado ranchers,
conservationists and business leaders coming together to
put forth a solution for this iconic bird,” said Hickenlooper.
“The Colorado Habitat Exchange will create a new market for voluntary conservation that will help protect the
greater sage-grouse and sustain Colorado’s energy and
agriculture economies.”

U.S. looks to recreate relations with
Somalia: The United States has reopened
its diplomatic mission with Somalia. The
move marks a major step towards re-establishing normal relations with Somalia. In
1991 the United States closed its embassy
in Somalia. The decision to reopen for the
United States to reopen their diplomatic
mission was first announced last summer.
Treacherous rain strikes Sierra
Leone: After days of torrential rains, four
people have died in Sierra Leone, while
many others have been left injured and
homeless. The rain is expected to continue
for at least another week. Those who have
been lest homeless have been transferred
to the country’s national stadium for shelter.

North Korea warns U.S.: North Korea
warned the United States that they are ready to
use nuclear weapons against them if they pursue “their reckless hostile police” toward Kim
Jong Un. North Korea’s state run news agency
said the country is improving its nuclear weapons in quality and quantity. However, there are
still strong doubts that North Korea has the
technology to target the United States.
Wanted Chinese man sent back: One
of China’s most wanted fugitives has been
repatriated by the United States. Yang Jinjun, a
Chinese businessman, is wanted for corruption
and bribery in China and has been in the United
States since 2001. The move by the United
States has come at a time when President Xi
Jinping will be visiting the United States.

Body discovered in plane: A man’s
body was discovered in the landing gear of
a cargo plane in Amsterdam. The body is
believed to be a stowaway and a forensic
investigation is currently being conducted.
The plane landed in the morning and the
man’s body has been taken to a morgue
where authorities will try to identify him.
Latin America
Earthquake strikes Chile: An 8.3
magnitude earthquake hit Chile. At least
11 people have died from the earthquake,
and authorities said that the toll could have
been higher. President Michelle Bachelet
said that advanced planning and authorities’
quick reaction saved numerous lives and
that the response to the earthquake was
effective. One hundred-seventy homes were
damaged due to the earthquake.
Mexican tourists killed in Egypt:
Eight Mexican tourists were killed in Egypt
while six other were injured. The tourists
were on a safari when Egyptian officials
mistakenly took the tourists for terrorists
and shot them. Four Egyptians on the safari
were also killed. The Mexican government
has called for an investigation to determine
what happened in Egypt. Egyptian Foreign
Minister Sameh Shoukry issued a letter
expressing his “deepest sympathy.”

Russia building base in Syria: According
to the United States government, it is believed
that the Russian military is attempting to set up
an operating base in Syria. The base is being
built in Latakia, an area that is controlled by
Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. Al-Assad is a
close ally to Russia. Russian President Vladimir
Putin has said that Russia is supporting Syria in

Muslim teen accused of creating
bomb: A Texas high school sparked outrage
throughout the country when a Muslim teen
brought a clock to school that he proudly
created on his own. Ahmed Mohamed, the
student, was then arrested by police who
said the clock was a bomb. Mohamed has
transferred schools and has since been
invited to Facebook’s headquarters and the
White House. He has also received offers for
internships from Google and Twitter.
Air marshals being investigated:
According to the Transportation Security
Administration, two Federal Air Marshals
have been found in the middle of a prostitution investigation. The two Federal Air
Marshals allegedly interacted in sexual
activity with prostitutes and recorded it with
government-issued cell phones. Authorities
are also investigating a second case involving “sexual trysts.”

Turistas mexicanos asesinados en
Egipto: Ocho turistas mexicanos fueron
asesinados en Egipto y otros seis resultaron
heridos. Los turistas estaban en un safari
cuando los oficiales egipcios tomaron a
los turistas por terroristas y les dispararon.
Cuatro egipcios del safari también fueron
muertos. El gobierno mexicano ha pedido una investigación para determinar que
sucedió en Egipto. El Ministro de Relaciones
Exteriores de Egipto hizo una carta expresando su “profunda condolencia”.

Rusia construye base en Siria:
Según el gobierno de los Estados Unidos,
se cree que el ejército ruso está tratando de
poner una base de operaciones en Siria. La
base está siendo construida en Latakia, un
área que es controlada por el presidente
sirio Bashar al-Assad. Al-Assad es un aliado
cercano de Rusia. El president ruso Vladimir
Putin ha dicho que Rusia está apoyando a
Siria en la lucha contra ISIS.
Norte America
Adolescente musulmán acusado de
crear una bomba: Una escuela preparatoria de Texas provocó indignación en el país
cuando un adolescente musulmán trajo a la
escuela un reloj que orgullosamente creo
por su propia cuenta. Ahmed Mohamed, el
estudiante, fue entonces arrestado por la

A call to confront an anti-Latino immigrant agenda

presidential debate
forum comes to
the University of
Colorado at its
Boulder campus. The
theme of the debate
is the economy and it
no doubt will include
David Conde
rhetoric about current policies that have prevented the middle
class from making the kind of comeback that
should go with the healthy figures we are seeing in the employment market.
We will probably hear about how the job
creators are being hampered and discouraged from investing in America in a way
that can grow the middle class. Any objective
review however, reveals that although we
are virtually at full employment, the employers are making and keeping the revenue to
increase the wealth of the 1%.
Part of the economic message that
some of the characters that fill the candidate for president stage are bringing with
them is the notion that Latino immigrants
are the cause of the current ills in America.
The proposed remedies is to deport undocumented immigrants and their American
families, double down on a wall between
the United States and Mexico and defy the
Constitution on citizenship as a birthright.
And this is just the beginning as the
message is being delivered include references to anchor babies, criminals, rapists,
drugs and other vulgarities. We witnessed
live, that Univision anchor Jorge Ramos was
kicked out of a press conference because
he dared to anger a candidate with questions related to the logistics of deporting 11
million Latinos and building a wall on the
border and going against the Constitution
on the right of citizenship to everyone born
this country.
The parting shot by the candidate was to
tell Ramos to go back to Univision. Outside
the press conference room Ramos was confronted by a follower of the candidate that
demanded that he go back to his country.
Jorge Ramos, an American citizen,
found himself in the same class as anchor
babies whose citizenship is discounted.
The tragedy is that there are millions of
Americans that think this way and seek to
increase the popularity of presidential candidates that voice their racism and hatred
that is the blaming part of their discontent.
Former Mayor Federico Pena is calling for a major gathering at the Boulder
presidential debate on October 28th to confront the core of the anti-Latino immigrant
agenda displayed or abated by many of the
candidates that will participate. The message to be sent is that the Latino community will not tolerate these expressions that
divide the country and that they have the
political power to make or unmake political
aspirations.
Jorge Ramos states that the 14 million votes that Latinos will cast in 2016 are
more than enough to determine the winner
and loser of the presidential contest. In
other words, the Latino response to these
indignities is at the same time a message
to themselves about taking political control
of their future.
Gonzalez’ epic poem I am Joaquin says
that “I must fight and win this struggle for
my sons, and they must know from me who
I am.” This is the point that must be made,
that the Latino community will not tolerate
diminishing insults designed as obstacles
to taking leadership in the affairs of the
country.
The political landscape before us represents a challenge typical of the age in which
we live and one that great people always confront and overcome. There is no doubt that
it is our destiny to rid the country of those
elements that block the path to a better world.

debate nacional republicano a la Presidencia
que viene a la Universidad de Colorado en
el campus de Boulder. El tema del debate es
la economía y sin duda va a incluir retórica
acerca de la política reciente que ha impedido que la clase media pueda rebotar y que
debe tener cifras más saludables que estamos viendo en el mercado del empleo.
Probablemente oiremos acera de cómo
los creadores de trabajo están siendo obstruidos y desanimados a invertir en América
en una forma que haga crecer la clase
media. Cualquier estudio objetivo, revela
que aun cuando estamos virtualmente sin
desempleo, los empleadores están haciendo
y manteniendo los ingresos para aumentar
la riqueza del 1 por ciento.
Parte del mensaje económico que algunas personas que llenan el escenario de
candidatos a la presidencia están trayendo
consigo la idea de que los inmigrantes
latinos son la causa de los problemas en
América. Los remedios propuestos son los
de deportar a los inmigrantes indocumentados y sus familias americanas, doblar la
muralla entre los Estados Unidos y México
y desafiar la Constitución en la ciudadanía
como derecho de nacimiento.
Y esto es solamente el comienzo ya que
el mensaje que se está repitiendo incluye las
referencias a niños ancla, criminales, violadores, drogas y otras vulgaridades. Nosotros
fuimos testigos oculares como el periodista
de Univisión Jorge Ramos fue sacado de
una conferencia de prensa porque se atrevió
a enfurecer a un candidato con preguntas
relacionadas al trabajo de deportar a 11 millones de latinos y construir una muralla en
la frontera e ir en contra de la Constitución
en el derecho a la ciudadanía a todos los
nacidos en este país.
La despedida del candidato fue decirle
a Ramos que se regresara a Univisión.

candidato que demandaba que se devolviera
a su país.

descontento.
El previo alcalde Federico Peña está
haciendo un llamado a un encuentro más
grande del debate presideencial en Boulder
el 28 de Octubre para enfrentarse al núcleo
de la agenda anti-latina inmigrante demostrada o reducida por muchos de los candidatos que van a participar. El mensaje que
se debe enviar es que la comunidad latina
no tolerará esas expresiones que dividen
el país y que tienen el poder de hacer o
deshacer aspiraciones políticas.

el ganador y perdedor la campaña presidencial. En otras palabras, la respuesta latina a

Joaquín dice que “Yo debo pelear y ganar
esta pelea por mis hijos, y ellos deben saber
quién soy yo”. Este es el punto que se debe
hacer, que la comunidad latina no tolerará
insultos relajantes diseñados como obstáculos para aceptar el liderazgo en los asuntos
del país.
El panorama político ante nosotros representa un reto típico de la edad en la que
vivimos y que grandes personas siempre
enfrentaron y superaron. No hay duda de
que es nuestro destino deshacer del país
esos elementos que bloquean el camino
hacia un mundo mejor.

Vigils: education is a priority
The Vigils discuss their journey to education and the
challenges facing students and educators today

Editor’s Note: La Voz is celebrating Hispanic Heritage with a
six-part series on notable individuals and families with roots
and traditions in the Centennial state. This week we focus
on the Vigils who have firm roots in the Adams 12 Five Star
Schools as educators and administrators.
It wasn’t Val Vigil’s initial plan to go into education.
That path was something he had to figure out for himself.
“I went to college for two years and then I dropped out and I
worked construction here in Denver,” Vigil said of the path that
led him education. “I went back to my hometown La Costilla
[NM] and I did substitute teaching and I really enjoyed it. So
that is why I decided to go back. I felt like I needed to go out
there and teach. I needed to get back in the classroom.”
With a degree in secondary education, Vigil taught for
14 years in New Mexico and Colorado, before entering the
realm of politics where education continued to be his focus,
especially among the underrepresented students.
“I think that one of the reasons why I so passionately
fight for the immigrant kids is that my dad was a sheepherder back home and would leave the house for 15 months at a
time,” Vigil said. “Then he’d come back and stay home for a
month and then he’d be gone again. So I know what kind of
life these immigrants are going through. So I want to do my
share of trying to share that with they kids and say, ‘I fought
hard to get where I’m at and if I can do it, you can do it.’”
Vigil successes are just portrayed in his own life where he
has been a member of the State House of Representatives, a
member of Thornton City Council for Ward 2, a business owner
in Adams County for over 42 years in consulting, accounting,
tax preparation and real estate, and is now vying for the position of Mayor of Thornton in the coming election year.
His greatest accomplishment, however, is that of his
47 years of marriage to his spouse Annabelle Vigil and two
daughters, Nadine Cordova and Valerie Vigil, both of whom
followed him into education.
“We were not on the same path at the beginning,” said
Valerie Vigil who is now a counselor in Adams 12 Five Star
Schools. “I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal
Justice and worked for the Division of Youth Corrections for
eight years. My father encouraged me to go into education,
but I could not see myself as a teacher. After six years working
for DYC, I went back to get my Master’s degree.”
As a counselor Vigil added that her role and the challenges she faces differ slightly from those of teachers.
“One challenge counselors face more and more is suicide,”
Vigil said. “We do numerous suicide assessments every year
and these assessments can take up to two to three hours to
complete. Our district is very cautious and we take it very serious. Our district has lost too many students to suicide.”

están pasando estos inmigrantes. Por eso quiero poner esa

estoy, y si yo pude hacerlo ustedes también’”.

Val Vigil added that among the challenges educators
face in today’s education climate is lack of involvement from
parents in their child’s education.
“We’re dealing with parents that had a hard time in
school,” he said. “They aren’t educated enough or motivated
enough to help [their students] out at home. So they are
relying on the schools to do everything in school and we only
have the kids for six hours, so what happens in the other 18
hours? The learning has to continue on in the home.”
A separate challenge, according to Vigil, occurs often
in lower socioeconomic communities where students are
unable to enroll in day care or preschool programs and start
their first day of school too far behind to catch up.
“My granddaughter is an elementary school teacher,” he
said. “Her first year she taught full-day kindergarten with 28
kids in her classroom. Of the 28 kids, three of them had gone
to some type of formal day care or preschool program. They
walked in without knowing their colors, their numbers, their
alphabet, nothing of that. So they start off on the wrong side,
they start off behind and they can’t catch up.”
Poverty is another challenge students face, Valerie Vigil
added.
“Students worry about their families whether they will
have food or a place to stay,” she said. “Education is the last
thing on their mind.”
Despite the challenges the Vigils agreed that the
rewards outweigh the difficulties.
“When I left DYC, I wanted to know that I made a difference in a student’s life,” Valerie Vigil said. “I see that every

reddish-colored moon, what some have come to call a ‘Blood
Moon.’ It will take on this unique shade as a result of light bending through the Earth’s atmosphere.
On these two nights in September, the moon will be
about 20,000 miles closer to Earth than it usually is. But even
at its closest, we will still not be as close to it as was Jose
Hernandez, one of a handful of current and former Latino
astronauts and a former crew member of the International
Space Station. Hernandez is also the only astronaut whose
childhood was spent ‘following the crops.’ He is the son of
migrant farmworkers.
It is an overwhelming feeling that you get,” Hernandez
said of his experiences in space as he waited recently for his
flight in Chicago. But even more overwhelming is thinking
of Hernandez as a young boy in places like Stockton, Salinas,
Monterrey, all towns that make up California’s ‘salad bowl,’
the place where much of our produce is grown and somehow
reaching his dream of flying in space.
If you could travel back in time to the sixties, you could see
Hernandez as a young boy, short-handled hoe in hand, toiling
under a searing California sun and waiting for the night when
he could escape the heat and dream of a different life.
As he looks back today at his time in the astronaut corps,
Hernandez knows that his reality actually outdid his dreams.
And he remains almost evangelistic about humankind’s
need to go higher and set goals that will take future space
travelers well beyond his own experiences.
Hernandez is not the kind to set limits on his hopes and
dreams and that begins with interplanetary travel. “I want
to see travel to places like Mars, the moons of Neptune and
Pluto,” he says with a palpable excitement. “I think about colonizing Mars. I want it to be the norm and not the exception.”
Hernandez also doesn’t blink an eye when detractors suggest
that sending robots and not humans is more practical and cost
efficient. But he bristles at the suggestion of others who dare

to say that space travel is a whimsical and needless expense.
“I just think people like that are not well informed,” he said.
Even today, said Hernandez, people are benefitting by what we
have learned in the last fifty years of space exploration. The
former campesino-turned-astronaut stands by his every word
when he says that every penny spent by the space program is an
investment. “We would not be having this conversation on my cell
phone without space travel,” said Hernandez. And the list goes on.
While Hernandez has logged time in space, he also has
nearly a dozen Latino brethren who are also in special corps,
including nine who have flown missions. Franklin ChangDiaz is the first Latino to serve on a mission and Ellen Ochoa
is the first Latino to fly aboard the shuttle and space station.
Another Latino to fly in space is Arnaldo Tamayo Méndez, a
Cuban who flew aboard a Russian space mission.
Investing in space has brought us or helped perfect
satellite dishes, medical imaging, medical telescopes, cordless tools, smoke detectors, thermal gloves and boots, aerodynamic wheels, firefighting equipment and suits, fail safe
flashlights, invisible braces for teeth, space pens (that write
upside down), better baby food and, something Colorado’s
skiers will appreciate, ski boots.
Mid-summer’s wildly successful New Horizons mission
that flew by and mapped never before seen details of Pluto
has also inspired a new excitement in space exploration.
For people like Hernandez and the University of Colorado’s
Larry Esposito, the success has only deepened the desire to
do more and learn more. They are a pair who refuse to live
with limitations, no matter how daunting.
“I’m excited about exploring the planets and landing a craft on
the surface of Venus,” said Esposito, a professor of Astrophysical
and Planetary Sciences. “It would be technically challenging,” he
said with a chuckle, “but the view would be spectacular.”
People like Esposito and his University of Colorado colleagues have been the genesis of numerous NASA projects,
including the overwhelmingly successful New Horizons
Pluto mission.

conducted in space by CU graduates. In all, eighteen CU alums
have flown on space missions, including Scott Carpenter, one of
the original seven astronauts. The University has also lost two
astronauts on missions. Kalpana Chawla died in the Columbia
disaster and Ellison Onizuka was killed seventy-three seconds
after liftoff from Cape Canaveral in 1986. The late Jack Swigert
was a crew member on the nearly disastrous Apollo 13 mission
and was a Colorado graduate. He later served in Congress.
Despite dreaming big, Esposito remains a scientist
and as such does not allow his imagination to overcome his
scientific discipline. He doesn’t dream of grand trips across
the Universe. Rather, he is content on setting his sights
on the realistic, the doable and the practical. He thinks, for
example, that Mars is within our grasp. In fact, he thinks a
manned colony on Mars is in our future.
“We know so few details about its surface that we could learn
a lot,” he said. But, it was in 2009 that a team of CU researchers
discovered definitive evidence of an ancient lake on Mars. They
discovered deltas next to this long ago lake. The discovery was
epic because deltas on Earth are home to organic carbon and may,
perhaps, be indications that life once existed on Mars.
For scientists like Esposito and his CU colleagues, including Drs. Alan Stern and Fran Bagenal, both of whom were
essential in the planning and execution of New Horizons,
space is not simply a place. It is a key part of our future.
For Hernandez, who experienced spaceflight on two NASA
missions, it was a dream he never imagined would be his destiny. “When I flew,” said Hernandez, “I was prepared for the mission. The thing I wasn’t prepared for was the ‘oh, yeah!’ feeling
of actually being in space. It is so very humbling to see the earth

accomplishment as he thought back to the young boy standing in a field and looking up and wondering what it must be
like. Pausing for a moment, he summed the experience up
simply. “You’re outside of the Earth. It’s just very neat.”

of the EPA Clean Power Plan – and we are
perplexed by the recent news that Attorney
General Cynthia Coffman is joining a lawsuit to challenge it. The Clean Power Plan
is the single most important step our country can take to reduce carbon pollution in
the fight against climate change.

and pollution. The Clean Power Plan will
cut carbon emissions by 32 percent by the
year 2030. The health of the Latino community depends on this reduction – and we

Pueblo’s 21st Annual Loaf ‘N Jug Chile and
Frijoles Festival starts September 25th, and ends
on the 27th. The festival is located on the Union
Avenue Historic District, in Pueblo. Since 1995
The Chile and Frijoles Festival has been a great
economic boost to Pueblo County.
Last year’s festival sales over the three day
period, generated over $50,000 and with a record
attendance of over 130,000 people. This is up
from previous years and it is the aim of the organizes to set a new attendance record this year
This year at the festival they are expecting over 200 vendors with 40 local bands. The cost to enter the festival is $3
and children under 12 enter free. The cost of the chile is $30
per bushel roasted and $25 unroasted. The Chile and Frijoles
Festival is one event that generates tens of thousands in
revenue for the city and county.
The Festival starts on Thursday evening the 24th of
September, with a reception from 5-7 p.m. at the Sangre De
Cristo Arts and Conference Center. On Friday, the Festival
starts at 3 p.m. and goes to midnight, the Chili and Salsa
Showdown food competition starts at 2 p.m. on Saturday at
the Pueblo Convention Center. There is a $25 entry fee. The
first prize is $500 for the Commercial Vendors, the Non-
Commercial participants entry fee is $5 and a $100 1st place
prize. On Sunday the “Hot to Trot 5K Fun Run” & 2 Mile
walk takes place and the day ends with the “Jalapeno Eating
Contest” at 4 p.m.
The Chile & Frijoles Festival promotes the local grown
Mirasol Chile product. This Mirasol Chile is considered one
of the best in the nation. The Mirasol Chile grows pointing
up facing the sun, therefore the name Mirasol (Spanish for
facing the sun). The Mirasol Chile pepper is between 3-5
inches long and ¾ inches wide with a Scoville range between
2,500 – 5,000 SHU’s. The Scoville Heat Unit (SHU) is used to
measure the “heat” of chile peppers.
The Mirasol Chile has a unique spicy flavor and is

Broncos stun Chiefs
This last weekend the Mile High
City seemed more like a ghost town
on typical football Sunday, and that’s
because the Broncos traveled to
Kansas City on Thursday to face the
league’s most menacing defense, the
Kansas City Chiefs. Fortunately for
the Denver Broncos their defense
has been a force themselves, ranking at one of the highest among
defenses in the NFL this season.

The game seemed troublesome
for Denver as the Broncos fell behind quickly 14-0 early. It
wasn’t hard to see that Peyton Manning felt uncomfortable
within Coach Kubiak’s new offensive scheme. Luckily for
Denver, the Broncos new head coach recognized this and
seemed to give full reign to the offense, and just in time –
because Manning along with the defense managed to get
themselves right back in the game tying the Chiefs 14-14.
Kansas City took the lead back after scoring a field goal;
however Denver got just close enough to allow Brandon
McManus to score one from beyond 50 yards. Turnovers were
a huge factor for the Broncos’ win on Thursday night as Aqib
Talib managed to snag an interception at yet another critical turning point of the game. When all was said and done
Denver came out victorious, scoring on yet another defensive turnover at the hands of running back Jamal Charles
who had coughed one up earlier in the game.
Denver now stands alone atop of the AFC West, but
critics are still not yet sold on Denver with the disconnect
Manning has shown during the last two games. What critics are not saying is that Denver has now beaten top ten
defenses regardless of how dismal Manning’s performance
has been. Denver will face the Detroit Lions this Sunday,
who are coming off a loss. Detroit’s offense will definitely
be a challenge for Denver’s Defense. When it comes to the
Denver Broncos, this saying might be their best motto...

fue en el año 2009 que un equipo de investigadores de
CU descubrió evidencias de un antiguo lago en Marte.
Descubrieron deltas cerca de este lago antiguo. El descubrimiento fue épico por que los deltas de la tierra son
lugares donde existe el carbón orgánico, y puede quizás,
ser indicativos de que la vida existió antes en Marte.
Para científicos como Esposito y sus colegas de CU,
incluyendo a los Dres. Alan Stern y Fran Bagenal, quienes
fueron parte esencial de la planeación y ejecución de New
Horizons, el espacio no es simplemente un lugar. Es una
parte clave de nuestro futuro.
Para Hernández, que participo en vuelos espaciales en
dos misiones de la NASA, este fue un sueño que él nunca
imaginó que estuviera en su destino. “Cuando volé”, dijo
Hernández, “Yo estaba preparado para la misión. La cosa
para la cual no estaba preparado fue el sentimiento de ‘oh,
yeah!’ de estar haciendo eso en el espacio. Lo hace sentir
humilde ver la tierra.
El dijo también, hubo un sentimiento de logro increíble
cuando pensaba en el niño que estaba en el campo de
labranza, mirando hacia arriba y preguntándose como seria
eso. Haciendo una pausa por un momento, el simplifico
