A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE: If we want to be happy at home
we must commit (lose ourselves) to our family. If we try to be
independent from others (save ourselves) we end up lonely and
alone. Happiness is found in commitments. The Gospel is true:
We save our life by losing it!

“You too, dear young people, can be joyful witnesses of His
love, courageous witnesses of His Gospel.”
- Pope Francis
During his five-day East Coast
whirlwind visit (Sept. 22 to 27), Pope
Francis will reach out to the powerful in
Washington, D.C., and New York meeting with President Obama and speaking before both the U.S.
Congress and the U.N. General Assembly. But side visits will
include some places on the periphery of U.S. life. The pope will
visit a Catholic Charities food program in downtown
Washington, a Catholic school in Harlem that serves largely
Latino immigrant children, and a prison in Philadelphia to meet
with inmates and some of their families. The papal itinerary also
makes clear that the first pope from Latin America will make
Latino Catholicism a centerpiece of this visit.
Harsh criticisms meted out by Pope Francis on free market
capitalism have sparked backlash from some fiscal conservatives.
Some are bracing for more criticisms from the pope, this time
directed specifically at the culture and economy of the U.S.
Joseph Kaboski, a professor of economics at the University of
Notre Dame and president of an international organization of
Catholic economists, said he views the pope “as neither pro nor
anti-capitalist, but instead a measured critic.” Kaboski said he is
“confident Pope Francis finds much to commend” in U.S.
economic life. At the same time, the pope “would also criticize
the vast disparities in income and wealth….point to the poor, and
argue that they are not fully participating in society,” Kaboski
said.

The Ladder Community Center is a 501-C nonprofit corporation, with funding through the
Community Foundation for Oceana County. They are an
intergenerational, ethnically diverse gathering; a safe place to gather,
unifying the community, partnering with other organizations to serve
the people of our community...together!
They envision a gathering place for friends, neighbors… our
community - for the young and still young at heart - a safe,
structured place to gather - free of charge. As they get rolling, these
are potential things they see happening: shuffle board, cards, arts &
crafts classes, dodge ball, ping pong and pool leagues with
tournaments, a space to work-out with equipment, coffee house,
music, live music.
Grand Opening is targeted for sometime this autumn.

Macedonia, Bulgaria and Serbia,
providing essential needs like food, shelter and medical care.

bautizos, bodas o celebraciones especiales. ¿No es importante
también reconocer que nosotros mismos, a veces, separamos la fe de
la vida cuando nos contentamos con darle culto a Dios en la iglesia
pero sin ayudar al necesitado en la calle?
