“Render therefore to Caesar the things that are
Caesar’s and to God the things that are God’s.”
- Matthew 22:21
Everything we are and everything we have belongs
to God. We aren’t “owners” of anything, we are
merely “stewards” of the gifts God has given each of
us. All God is asking is that we give back a portion
of what He gave us. This is the essence of Stewardship. God should be our first priority in everything.
All else comes second.

PRAYER BLANKET/SHAWL MINISTRY
On behalf of the chaplains at Alexian Brothers Medical Center (ABMC), we would like to acknowledge
our prayer blanket ministers during PASTORAL
CARE WEEK. Pastoral Care Week is celebrated annually in October; this year it is from October 1925. The lovely, hand made prayer blankets that are
donated support our Center for Spiritual Care ministry in the hospital. The 2014 Pastoral Care theme is
"Spiritual Well-Being. The gift of the prayer blanket
embodies spiritual well-being for both the recipient
and the chaplain as they pray together using the blanket. Many (recipients, family members and chaplains) become more mindful of the prayer blanket
ministers' generosity of time, compassion, creativity,
and service to the community. We are also aware
that their intentions and actions have a ripple effect
for those who have received a prayer blanket in both
times of suffering and celebration. We
at ABMCcontinue to be grateful for your parish, ST.
COLETTE, and the strength, sacredness, hope and
comfort that you bring through your Prayer Blanket
Ministry to Alexian Brothers Medical Center. Thank
you to your Prayer Blanket Ladies: DIANE ARSCOTT, ELLIE CHAUVIN, MARGARET GORDER, KATHYHOYOS, MARTHA HUBERTY,
DORIS KUFORIJI, KATHY McCRAREN, BONNIE MEYER, AND CATHYTRUSKOWSKI.
Again, many BLESSINGS to all of YOU,
Phyllis Harman, Chaplain
Prayer to St. John Paul II
O Blessed Trinity, we thank you for
having graced the Church with Saint
John Paul II and for allowing the
tenderness of your fatherly care, the
glory of the Cross of Christ and the
splendor of the Spirit of love to
shine through him. Trusting fully in
your infinite mercy and in the maternal intercession of Mary, he has
given us a living image of Jesus the
Good Shepherd. He has shown us
that holiness is the necessary measure of ordinary
Christian life and is the way of achieving eternal
communion with you. Grant us, by his intercession,
and according to your will, the graces we implore,
through Christ our Lord. Amen.
OPPORTUNITIES FOR DISCIPLESHIP
For the last several Sundays you have heard a
series of homilies that had very special
themes. The first was to remind us that Jesus
is the one who has given us life and freedom
and is the truth and way of our life. The next
was to remind us that the kingdom of God is
for sinners and as we admit in all humility that
we are sinners and accept God’s gift of reconciliation we can enter this kingdom. However,
to live in this kingdom is also to understand
that God has called us to work with him in
building up this kingdom. We are both sinners
and servants of the Lord. Finally, that each of
us created in the image and likeness of God,
and blessed with unique and many gifts have
been called, invited by God, to live the particular way of the gospel that fits the gifts we
have been given. Another way of saying this is
that God invites us to be his disciples, to work
with him in building up the people of God,
proclaiming the gospel to all the world, and
celebrating our birth, our reconciliation, our
life in the Eucharist.
This weekend and next weekend you
will hear true stories of your neighbors,
friends, fellow parishioners and others speak
of how Jesus has been a part of their life and
how they have answered his call to be his disciple.
Next Sunday, October 26, we invite
you to come down Halpin Hall after the Mass
you attend to see what the possibilities are for
you to actualize your gifts, to fulfill your potential, as a disciple of the Lord. Remember,
the invitation to serve comes in anyway, and
often enough from family, friends and fellow
parishioners.
9:00AM Hospitality
There will be no 9:00AM Hospitality this Sunday because of preparations for Fr. Matthias fundraiser
lunch. Next Sunday, we will again be away because
of the Pancake Breakfast. We hope to see you there.
Parish Pastoral Council (PPC)
The PPC will have a meeting Tuesday October 21,
2014 at 7:00PM. We will meet in the Parish House
Living Room.

Reflecion Semanal

Somos pecadores
y siervos del Señor. Por último, cada uno de
nosotros somos creados a imagen y
feligreses.

PEER MINISTERS/LEADERS
On October 12th our Peer Minister/Leaders
were commissioned and received a Blessing from Fr.
Brian at the Teen Mass. The Peer Minister/Leaders
have recreated and re-energized the traditional role of
a Peer Minister. This team is committed to use their
God given gifts to serve the needs of our parish community and our community at large. Just as the disciples did, our teens are reaching out and forming small
groups to serve in various areas of our Parish. The
teens have created new FOCUS Sub-committees such
as: Discipleship for Children and Peers; Teen Choir/
Instrumentals; and Parish Community Builders. Our
Social Justice and Service Sub-committee is in its’
third year of service. Most recently the Peer Leaders
led the Jr. High Confirmation teens through Prayer
Stations at the FOCUS Walk for Life. Further, our
FOCUS teens continue to serve as Lectors, Eucharistic Ministers, and Ushers at Liturgies, including the
Teen Ministered Mass. Our FOCUS teens also
demonstrate discipleship by teaching and assisting
with the religious education classes on Saturday and
Wednesday, by working with the Knights of Columbus to serve those in need, and by working at parish
various events/fund-raisers.
