Message from Fr. Timothy
Mensaje del Padre Timothy
Prepare the Way of the Lord
Preparen el camino del Señor
Today we see John the Baptist fulfilling his mission
as the one sent to announce the coming of the Lord.
His message was one of repentance and preparation.
We may find it hard to prepare for Christmas. Every
year at this time we can become stressed. We are
about to celebrate one of the happiest times of the
year and yet we can become over burdened with all
the things that need to get done. I like to think of Mary in
these moments. How did she prepare? She was about to
give birth to the Messiah and yet it seemed like she was so
unprepared. I think her secret can be discovered in her
words to the angel: “Let it be done unto me according to
thy word.” That is, she took everything in stride and lived
it with an open agenda, knowing that it all conformed to
God´s plan. This allowed her to arrive at the stable in
Bethlehem without worries or stress. This week, on Tuesday, we will celebrate the Solemnity of her Immaculate
Conception. Let´s ask her to teach us how to have a stressfree Advent , to prepare for the Christ Child who will be
born to us on the night of December 24.

OLGC GIVING TREE
It is the Advent season and once again the OLGC
Giving Tree is decorated with brightly colored
ornaments. It has been tradition here at OLGC
to help those in need, especially at this time
of year.
Please take an ornament tag from the tree.
Purchase a new gift for the person listed on the tag.
Do not wrap the present and attach the tag.
Keep the ornament.
Return the gift to Church December 19th. & 20th
The tags are coded to go to a specific person and it is
important that these tags be taped to the outside of the
present, so that it will get to the proper person.
Many of you in the past have been very generous in taking tags from the tree, but if you are new to OLGC or just
haven’t taken a tag in the past, won’t you consider taking
just one of the tags and returning a gift. One tag can
make a big difference in the success of this tradition.
Gift certificates and monetary donations (checks payable
to OLGC St. Vincent De Paul) can be labeled "Giving
Tree" and placed in the offering basket during mass, returned to the parish office, or placed in the Sunday collection basket.

Respect Life / Respeto a la Vida
Heavenly Father, thank you for the precious gift of life. Help us to
cherish and protect this gift, even in the midst of fear, pain, and
suffering. Give us love for all people, especially the most vulnerable, and help us bear witness to the truth that every life is worth
living. Grant us the humility to accept help when we are in need,
and teach us to be merciful to all. Through our words and actions,
may others encounter the outstretched hands of your mercy. We
ask this through Christ, our Lord. Amen.
~ USCCB 2015-16 Respect Life Program~
St. Vincent de Paul Society
In today’s Gospel John the Baptist urges us to “Prepare the way of
the Lord,” and this is what Advent is all about. We are called to
help prepare the way of the Lord by making the real meaning of
Christmas come alive in our own hearts, in our family and to
reach out to those in need.
Anyone could use a little help, or someone to talk to, especially
during these tough economic times. If you would like more information about what we do, please leave us a message at 630-2361285.

A Journey Through Advent: Liturgical Cycle C
Get the most out of Advent and Christmas following
along with Fr. Robert Barron's homilies as he unpacks
the profound Scripture readings for Liturgical Cycle C.
The readings that correspond to the homilies on this
CD were last heard in Advent 2012.
So Help Me God
In this dynamic talk Dr. Scott Hahn explains the
importance of oaths, which invoke God's name and
implore His assistance. He shows that oaths are also
the means of transforming our personal relationship
with Christ into a covenant relationship. He connects
oaths to the seven Sacraments and unveils their mystery
and importance. He reveals that the Sacraments are the
ordinary means by which God empowers us to do His
will. Sacraments don't make holiness easy, but they do
make it possible.
