Principal’sMessage
Congratulations to our Jaylene C. and Emily T. who represented CVE at the District Spelling Bee, February 5th!
We are very proud of you. Go Bears!
What is the CVE BEAR CODE?
Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a proactive systems approach to establishing the behavioral supports and social
culture needed for all students in a school to achieve social, emotional, and academic success. This year Castro Valley Elementary
implemented our school-wide PBIS approach that includes:



School wide expectations
Lesson plans to teach behavioral expectations
Acknowledgment system for appropriate behavior
CVE’s PBIS system identified four explicit behavior expectations for Castro Valley Elementary School known as our school motto:
“The Bear Code”
Be Safe
Engage in learning
Act Responsibly
Respect Yourself and Others
School-wide lessons for each location will teach students the expected behaviors along with several opportunities to practice and receive
clear feedback (positive feedback or corrective feedback). The lesson plans include examples and non-examples for teaching students the
Bear Code Expectations. Teachers, yard duty, staff, and administrator will teach the lesson plans throughout the school year. For example,
the Cafeteria Booster lesson was taught to the entire school body during our Unity Assembly.
Students are recognized with a “Bear Paw” for following the “Bear Code” expectations. Student Bear Paw tickets are entered in a weekly
raffle for a chance to earn a Bear Tag and announced on the intercom each Friday. Students showing exemplarily behavior of following
the “Bear Code” will be chosen by their classroom teacher and recognized at the Unity Assembly being the “Bear of the Week”.
Warmly,
Mrs. Hohn
Principal
Castro Valley Elementary appreciates the dedication of our School Board Trustee Members:

Mensajedela Directora
Be Safe - actúa con cuidado y seguridad
Engage in learning – concéntrate en aprender
Act Responsibly – actúa con responsabilidad
Respect Yourself and Others – respétate a tí mismo y a otros
Saludos,
Mrs. Hohn

24 HOURS FEVER FREE ZONE
CVE and CVUSD follow public health guidelines that state, “Keep your child home until they remain fever free for
24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication”. The school office will call parents/guardians for any child
that registers a fever of 100 degrees or higher and you will be asked to bring the child home and for the child to
not return until the fever is gone for 24 hours. We will also call for pick up if we see the student at school the next
day. We ask that you abide by the public health guideline to help keep the spread of illness to a minimum. Thank
you for your cooperation.
