SUMMER SCHOLARS PROGRAM
PROGRAMA ESCOLAR DE VERANO
OVERVIEW AND BENEFITS
The Summer Scholars Program provides college-bound high school
juniors from the greater Omaha metropolitan area with the
opportunity to:
• enroll in classes to earn college credit,
• live on campus for one week and prepare for college life, and
• meet new people, such as university faculty/staff and other
students with similar interests.
DESCRIPCIÓN Y VENTAJAS
El Programa Escolar de Verano es para estudiantes en el grado
once del área metropolitan de Omaha que desean asistir a la
universidad. Este programa ofrece la oportunidad de:
• matricularse en clases para recibir crédito universitario,
• vivir en dormitorios universitarios por una semana, y
• conocer muevas personas, como la fucultad, el personal, y
nuevos amigos.
The goal of this program is to expose participants to the dynamics
of a college campus environment through a five-week pre-college
summer session Friday, May 29th – Friday, July 3, 2015.
Students will experience and/or learn about:
• college academic course work
• faculty and staff interaction
• time management
• college admission and preparation
• college scholarship and financial aid
• career exploration
• cooperative learning
• community service and engagement and
• social and cultural awareness.
La meta de este programa es exponer a los participantes al dinamismo
y el ambiente unversitario, a través de cinco semanas preuniversitarias,
empezando el Viernes, 29 de Mayo – Viernes, 3 de Julio del 2015.
Los estudinates aprenderán y/o tendran experiencia sobre:
• cursos académicos universitarios
• interacción con la fucultad y el personal
• manejo del tiempo
• admisión universitaria y preparacion
• becas universitarias y ayuda financiera
• exploración de carreras
• el aprendizaje cooperativo
• servicio de communidad y
• conocimiento cultural y social.
COST PAID BY PROGRAM
The program will cover four credit hours of college tuition for the
program courses, all student fees, books, and parking permit. Six
days and five nights at Scott Residence hall including all meals.

QUALIFICATIONS
Students who qualify will:
• Have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0
grading scale
• Be a resident of the Omaha metropolitan area or Iowa MAP area
• Be a junior in high school

accomplish within the next five years. Articulate your goals.
Describe the purpose of these goals. Discuss what you have
done and what you will do to accomplish them. Be as through
as possible. The essay should be at least 300 words in length.
APPLICATION SELECTION PROCESS
A selection committee of UNO faculty and staff will review
completed applications. Then, the committee will select the
preliminary finalist for an interview. Lastly, the committee will select
finalists from the interviewed applicants. Interviews will take place
March 9th-19th, Monday through Friday from 3:00-5:30pm.

PROCESO DE SELECCION

Based on the student’s academic performance, it is recommended that enrollment in the Early Entry Program be granted through the Summer Scholars Program. This student
has at least a “B” average (3.0 on a 4.0 scale) in all high school academic core coursework. It is understood that the student may be admitted to UNO as a Summer Scholar
student and that college credits earned as a Summer Scholar while completing high school studies will normally be accepted toward fulfilling degree requirements at UNO and
