WE WILL BE JUDGED BY HOW WE HAVE CHOSEN TO ALLOW THIS LIFE TO INCREASE WITHIN GOD
PASTOR’S CORNER
What Is Entrusted Us
The Gospel parable is about a man entrusting his servants with his
property, and the point it makes concerns the need for fidelity in
caring for what belongs to the master.
God our master has left us with the earth, not to do with it what we
want but to care for it even as we live off of its abundant riches.
God created the land to support living things: What will happen when
God returns to find so much land strip-mined, strip-cleared, eroded,
and burdened with toxic waste? God created the waters to support
living things: What will happen when God returns to find the oceans
and rivers polluted with our garbage and chemical by-products? God
created the air to support living things: What will happen when God
returns to find smog and holes in the ozone?
God created plants and animals to live on this wonderful earth and
revel in its beauty: What will happen when God returns to find so
many of them driven to extinction by our destructive practices?
“Father of all that is good, keep us faithful in serving you.” May we
learn to care better for the Master’s goods so that when the Master
returns, we will hear those blessed words: “Well done! Come and
share your master’s joy.”
Men and women bear a unique responsibility under God to safeguard
the created world and by their creative labor even to enhance it.
Safeguarding creation requires us to live responsibly within it, rather
than manage creation as though we are outside it.
The human family is charged with preserving the beauty, diversity
and integrity of nature as well as fostering its productivity.

Why Catholic Schools: Catholic Schools in collaboration with
parents and guardians as the primary educators seek to educate the
whole child by providing an excellent education rooted in Gospel
values. Since the founding of the first Catholic school, the United
States Catholic bishops speaking in conference have supported
Catholic schools as foundational to the mission of the Church. As
recently as 2008, Pope Benedict XVI, during his visit to the United
States, stated that “Catholic schools are an outstanding apostolate of
hope…addressing the material, intellectual and spiritual needs of
three million children.” The bishops of the United States, particularly
in the seminal document, “To Teach as Jesus Did” (1971),
continuously underscore the three-fold mission of our Catholic
schools-to proclaim the Gospel, to build community and to serve our
brothers and sisters. In their most recent document, “Renewing Our
Commitment to Catholic Elementary and Secondary Schools in the
Third Millennium”, the United States Catholic Bishops emphasized
that the entire Catholic community is called to
evangelize our culture, and stressed that Catholic elementary and
secondary schools play a critical and irreplaceable role in this endeavor.
The bishops committed themselves and called on the entire Catholic
community to ensure that Catholic schools continue to provide a Gospelbased education of the highest quality. “Education is integral to the
mission of the Church to proclaim the good news. First and foremost,
every Catholic institution is a place to encounter the Living God, who in
Jesus Christ, reveals His transforming love and truth.” (Pope Benedict
XVI Address to Catholic Educators 2008) We thank our All Saints parents
who choose to send their children to All Saints to receive a Catholic
education and to our parish community for your support both financially as
well as spiritually! God bless you!

GET READY
The Letters of Paul to the Thessalonians are among his earliest writings, and are driven by his belief and the belief of the entire early
Christian community that the return of Christ was imminent. Therefore, to devote time or attention to anything else was foolish.
As time progressed, this fervor receded a bit. Today we may wonder, when we hear these readings about the coming end-times, if we
should take them to heart. What should we do when we hear that the day of the Lord will come upon us "like a thief at night"? (1
Thessalonians 5:2) Does this mean we are to stop our long-range goal-setting, get rid of our yearly calendars and planners, or stop
putting money in the college education fund? Of course not. What it does mean is that we need to change our lives, living like
children of the light and illuminating the world around us with the light of the gospel. Then, on that day, when the details of our
daily living become unimportant, we will be ready to find our peace and security in Christ Jesus.

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
All Christians in both East and West embraced the care of the sick as essential to church life. In the West, the importance of the visit
of the priest is stressed, while in the East, the sick person is brought to the church for a full Liturgy of the Word. Some, such as the
Armenians, even call it the "Ritual of the Lamp," since the oil is poured out of the lamp by which the Word is read. This may be why
Eastern Christians sometimes anoint the sick with this oil, since the trip to church might kill them.
Our tradition in the West also unfolded in monasteries, where it was possible for infirm monks to be attended with a full and
beautifully consoling liturgy. In 950 the monks of St. Alban's Abbey in Mainz produced a ceremonial book that was instantly a
pastoral hit everywhere. There were two lengthy rituals for the sick, one an extended vigil, and the other a liturgy of anointing that
included Communion under both species. While this ritual was a house formula for monks, it is easy to see how monks who had the
care of parishes desired to serve their parishioners in a similar way. The first form included the chanting of penitential psalms, and
the second form required a confession beforehand. Both forms included a laying on of hands, which everyone understood as being
an essential part of penance.

The Homebound Ministry is designed to visit homebound
persons in order to pray with them or read the Bible or just

shopping for those who cannot do so for themselves. We

IMPORTANT INFORMATION TO OUR PARISHIONERS
The regular use of your Sunday envelopes is very important! Whenever we do not have a record of
contributions and attendance or when they have ceased, we have NO way of knowing whether someone
is still worshiping with our community. Unless we know someone is a practicing Catholic, delays and
hard feelings can result when people want to be married, when they want their child to be baptized,
when they want to be a Godparent or a Confirmation sponsor, when they want to enroll their child in
Religious Education or Sacramental preparation programs, to provide you with a record of your
contributions for tax purposes and to obtain a favorable “support tuition rate” at ANY Catholic school
(support rate is given ONLY to parishioners who contribute a minimum of $800.00 throughout the
calendar year). It is simple to establish and maintain a record of attendance at Mass and parish
support, but filling out a registration form alone does NOT accomplish this, USING YOUR
NUMBERED ENVELOPES ON SUNDAY does (or including your parishioner number on whatever
envelope you use). Please stop by the office during office hours so we can get you ready for Sunday
worship. If you are registered and are NOT receiving your pre-printed envelopes, please contact us at
the Parish Office. If you are registered but have not used your Parish envelopes in the past two years,
your information will be inactivated and you will no longer receive pre-printed envelopes. Thank you!
sobres impresos. Gracias!
