GET READY
The Letters of Paul to the Thessalonians are among
his earliest writings, and are driven by his belief and the
belief of the entire early Christian community that the
return of Christ was imminent. Therefore, to devote time
or attention to anything else was foolish.
As time progressed, this fervor receded a bit. Today
we may wonder, when we hear these readings about the
coming end-times, if we should take them to heart.
What should we do when we hear that the day of the
Lord will come upon us “like a thief at night”? (1 Thessalonians 5:2) Does this mean we are to stop our longrange goal-setting, get rid of our yearly calendars and
planners, or stop putting money in the college education
fund? Of course not. What it does mean is that we need
to change our lives, living like children of the light and
illuminating the world around us with the light of the
gospel. Then, on that day, when the details of our daily
living become unimportant, we will be ready to find our
peace and security in Christ Jesus.

PREPÁRENSE
Las cartas de Pablo a los tesalonicenses son de sus
primeros escritos, y fueron motivadas por su creencia y
la de toda la primera comunidad cristiana de que el
Regreso de Cristo era inminente, y por eso sería una tontería dar tiempo o atención a otras cosas.
Con el pasar del tiempo, ese fervor comenzaba a
disminuir un poco. Hoy día, cuando escuchamos estas
lecturas sobre el fin del mundo, podemos preguntarnos
si de veras creemos que Cristo va a venir entre nosotros
como “un ladrón en la noche” (1 Tesalonicenses 5:2). Si
la respuesta es “Sí”, ¿debemos, o no, dejar nuestra
planificación a largo plazo, deshacernos de nuestros
calendarios y agendas, y suspender los ahorros para la
educación universitaria de nuestros hijos? Seguro que
no. Pero, lo que sí quiere decir es que deberíamos cambiar nuestra vida y vivir como hijos de la luz e iluminar
el mundo a nuestro alrededor con la luz del Evangelio.
Entonces, en aquel día, cuando los detalles de nuestra
rutina diaria ya no importen, estaremos listos para
encontrar nuestra
paz y seguridad en
Cristo Jesús.

Gracious and loving God,
as the autumn season con nues its transforma on;
and the days become shorter, the earth cooler;
as we an cipate joining family and friends
in joyful celebra on on Thanksgiving Day,
we pause to give You thanks and praise
for the abundant blessings You have bestowed
upon us:
For life and health, safety and comfort,
food and nourishment, we are sincerely grateful.
Through your Spirit, open our hearts
so that we may be even be er stewards
of these rich and unmerited gi s.
Show us how to be a blessing for the poor,
sick, lonely and all who suffer.
And help us nurture the gi of faith,

Transform November into a
Month of Thanksgiving

Perhaps this November we might allow Thanksgiving to permeate our lives for more than just a
day. How about the en re month?

Take a minute each day to thank the people
in your life who ma er to you.
Make a point to a end at least one Mass outside
the regular weekend Masses. Going to Mass on Thanksgiving morning is an excellent way to enrich that holiday. As a community of faith, we know that giving glory
to God in this way is an important aspect of our communal life of faith.
Transform the month of November into a month of
Thanksgiving. If you do, you will find your celebra on of
Thanksgiving Day a more richer and fuller experience
than you could have imagined. In fact, you might just
discover that your overall happiness with life improves.
May this month of Thanksgiving be a me when we not
only say “Thank You” to God, family and neighbor, but a
me when our hearts draw us much closer to the Lord.
For many of us, Thanksgiving Day is so full of ac vity that
there is a tendency to forget what’s at the heart of Thanksgiving, offering our thanks to God for the many gi s that
have been bestowed upon us. Although some mes the reason for the holiday is forgo en in our secular culture today,
good stewards of their life and faith recognize that Thanksgiving should be directed primarily in God’s direc on.
Because the “busyness” of Thanksgiving Day can easily
distract us from slowing down to a pace more suitable to
adequately expressing our gra tude to God, perhaps this
November we might allow Thanksgiving to permeate our
lives for more than just a day. How about the en re month?
Expressing gra tude is at the heart of good stewardship. So,
let’s dedicate a li le me each day in November to giving
thanks for our blessings.
Take a minute each day to thank the people in your life
who ma er to you. Tell them you’re thankful for them. Drop
someone a note, place a short phone call or even text them!
Telling people you’re thankful for them will enrich your life
as well as theirs.

Misas de los fines de semana. Ir a Misa la mañana del Día de
Acción de Gracias es una excelente manera de enriquecer esta
celebración. Como comunidad de fe, nosotros sabemos que
dar gloria a Dios de esta manera es un aspecto importante de
nuestra vida de fe comunitaria.
Transforme este mes de noviembre en un mes de Acción
de Gracias. Si lo hace, usted encontrará su celebración del Día
de Acción de Gracias como una experiencia más rica y más
plena de lo que usted había imaginado. De hecho, usted puede descubrir que su felicidad en general con la vida, mejora.
Que este mes de Acción de Gracias sea un empo en el que
nosotros no solamente digamos “Gracias” a Dios, a la familia y
al vecino, sino un empo en el que nuestros corazones sean

Good Health Habits Can Help Stop Germs

1. Avoid close contact. Avoid close contact with people
who are sick. When you are sick, keep your distance from
others to protect them from getting sick too.

Louis Church. The candidate will assists the maintenance of the church, hall, office and/or other church
buildings by doing light carpentry work and minor repair
work on the facilities as needed.
Position Requirements are *Candidate must have
necessary mechanical skills. *Good interpersonal
communication skills. *Ability to lift 50 pound.
*Ability to provide own transportation for job-related
responsibilities. *Must possess a valid California
driver’s license and proof of insurance. * Bilingual
