What a blessing! American Baptist Churches of Los Angeles (109 years),
Southwest and Hawaii (120 years) have been hard at work, under the
guidance of the Holy Spirit, to further the Kingdom of God among
communities in California, Arizona, Nevada and Hawaii. We have planted
churches, raised up pastoral and lay leaders, commissioned and supported
global and urban missionaries, established social service centers, and
educational institutions; the list is too numerous to mention in this letter.
On October 2-3, 2015, “In Your Wildest Dreams! Imagine a Church with
God’s Spirit Poured Out.” The critical component that is lacking seems
to be “an imagination of church through the eyes of the Holy Spirit. This
imagination requires us to think outside the carefully crafted categories of
ministry, we have envisioned. This year’s annual meeting committee has
assembled gifted speakers. They will share their insights and creative ways
of doing shepherding outreach among our rapidly growing population of
non-believers and unchurched.

“What’s Trending” – Nick Warnes from Northland Village Church of Los Angeles
The constant interaction between culture and the church goes back almost two thousand years. From Paul in Athens, to
Bono in Los Angeles, the people of God have maneuvered with both nuance and clumsiness as time has passed. How do
we, as the next generation of God’s people, be a people with an authentic witness our unique cultural climate? We hope
that you will join us to begin the conversation.
“Transcultural Leader—The Leading Edge Reality” - Samuel Chetti, Executive Minister, ABCOFLASH
Increasingly we are becoming a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural society. All of our communities are a cross section of our
planet. In this reality Shepherd/Leader must engage with a mindset, and skill set that embraces and empowers the rich
humanity in mission and ministry for the Kingdom of God on earth. We will explore a Biblical model God has embedded in
the scriptures.
Your Wildest Dreams: How to Go For Them!
Randy Hasper and Summer Armentrout, The REFINERY Church, Chula Vista, CA.
We all have beautiful dreams for our churches -- adding another service, reaching more people in our community for Christ,
hiring great staff, starting new ministries, increasing diversity, building new spaces, remodeling old ones. The question is
how do we take responsibility for the dreams God gives us and put processes and resources in place to make them come
true? Join us for lessons from the trenches, the story of a real church, with real challenges,
going for it!
“Imagine a Church That Attracts the Young Generation!”
As we all know young people are leaving the church. What can be done to reverse this trend in our churches? Listen to
veteran youth pastors from churches in our region share why we need to minister to this young generation and what we
need to do in our churches to keep them involved in ministry and in the life of the church so that they will become lifelong
followers of Jesus Christ!
Workshop Leaders: Ana Siguenza - Iglesia Bautista Nuevo Vivir; Immanuel Fears - Atherton Baptist Church, LA;
Daniel Matsuda - Gardena Valley Baptist Church; Jared Kilduff - Ocean View Baptist Church, San Pedro.
“Lessons from the Field - Learning from Ministry Being Done Around the World”
Churches thrive when they minister to the needs of their people and communities. Hear about models of ministry being
done on the mission field and how we can apply those principles to our ministries where we are so that we
can build thriving churches that share the love of Christ with those around us.
Workshop Facilitators - Ray Schooler, International Ministries; Mike and Becky Mann, Thailand; Jill Lowery. Democratic
Republic of the Congo; Pieter and Nora Kalkman, Europe; Richard Freeman, Turkey; Melanie Baggao, Lebanon.
“En Tu Sueño Salvaje: Imagínese una Iglesia con el Derramamiento del Espíritu de Dios”. (1:15 PM)
Rev. Juan Antonio Sariyana, Iglesia Cristiana Ebenezer, Cudahy
