Christmas 2015
Dear Parishioners,
Christmas is a special time for us – a time to recognize the love and goodness of God; a time to know
that Christ has come among us; a time to remember
that God now shares the same joys and sorrows that
we do; a time to rejoice in the hope of eternal life
that Jesus brings to each of us.
We welcome all of you, those who celebrate with us
daily and weekly, and those who have been away for
a while. We invite each of you to celebrate with us,
and we ask that you please bring a friend to celebrate
with us as well.
Thank you for all the kindness, support, encouragement and generosity you’ve shown during the year.
May the newborn Christ Child bless you, your families and your homes.

NEW YEAR'S DAY MASSES
Christmas is upon us, and once again we ask for your
help to make our church beautiful by making an offering for flowers in memory of a loved one. The offering
is $10. Please use a plain envelope and mark it
“Christmas Flowers”. The names of those memorialized and the donor will be published in the bulletin.
FAMILY CHRISTMAS EVE SUGGESTIONS
1. Plan a birthday party for the Baby Jesus. Have a
birthday cake, napkins, balloons and be sure to sing
“Happy Birthday” to Jesus.
2. Turn off all the lights in the house or apartment
except the tree lights. Each family member carry a
small lit candle and choose someone to carry the
Baby Jesus. Have a procession all through the
house singing “Silent Night”. Then place Jesus in
the manger under the tree. Christmas morning,
presents can go under the tree.
3. Darken the house or apartment and light one
candle. Read aloud the Christmas story from Luke
2:1:20 and sing carols.
4. Burn a candle in the front window of the house and
stay up until it burns out on its own. Started in
Ireland many years ago, this custom is a welcome
to the Christ Child.
NEW DONATION ENVELOPES
All “registered and contributing” parishioners are invited to pick up a year’s worth of envelopes in a boxed set.
The box contains all the envelopes one will need from
Jan. 10, 2016 to January 1, 2017, including Special Diocesan collections and holy days.
The boxed envelopes are distributed every weekend
after Masses.
The boxes are arranged alphabetically, facilitating distribution. Please be patient - we are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

Navidad 2015
Queridos feligreses,
momento para reconocer el amor y la bondad de Dios;
Agradecemos a

JUBILEO

“THE TWELVE DAYS OF CHRISTMAS”
- A religious significance?
From 1558 until 1829 the Catholics of
England were forbidden by law to practice their faith. Catholics devised symbolic songs to teach their children. One
of these was “The Twelve Days of
Christmas.”
The twelve days are December 25 to
January 6. God gives Christians gifts
on each of the twelve days.
The first gift is a partridge in a pear
tree. The bird stands for Christ, who
gathers his young under his wings.
God’s first gift is Jesus.
Two turtle doves represents the sacrifice of a Jewish
family at the birth of a son. Our sacrifice is the divine
liturgy.
Three French hens symbolizes the three gifts of the
Magi or the three gifts of faith, hope, and charity.
Four callings birds makes us think of the four evangelists, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.
Five golden rings suggests the first five books of the
Old Testament, the “Torah”.
Six geese-a-laying suggests the six days of the week
when humanity labors.
Seven swans-a-swimming reminds us of the seven gifts
of the Holy Spirit.
Eight maids-a-milking represents the eight beatitudes.
Nine ladies dancing recalls the fruits of the Holy Spirit
in Galatians 5:22.
Ten lords-a-leaping represents the Ten Commandments.
Eleven pipers piping refers to the eleven apostles, without Judas, who betrayed Jesus.
Finally, twelve drummers drumming reminds us of the
twelve articles of faith in the Nicene Creed.
HAVE YOU NOTICED?
We were finally able to get a beautiful Cross to fit atop
the Tabernacle on the back altar. We are grateful to
Mike Koerber, our Physical Plant Director, for his hard
work in obtaining it.
A PRAYER FOR THE YEAR OF MERCY
BY POPE FRANCIS
Lord Jesus Christ, you have taught us to be merciful like
the heavenly Father, and have told us that whoever sees
you sees God. Show us your face and we will be saved.
You are the visible face of the invisible Father, of the
God who manifests his power above all by forgiveness
and mercy: let us the Church be your visible face in the
world. Send your Spirit and consecrate every one of us
with its anointing, so that the Jubilee of Mercy may be a
year of grace from the Lord, and your Church, with renewed enthusiasm, may bring good news to the poor,
proclaim liberty to captives and the oppressed, and restore sight to the blind.
We ask this through the intercession of Mary, Mother of
Mercy, you who live and reign with the Father and the
Holy Spirit for ever and ever. Amen.
CATHOLIC CHARITIES CHRISTMAS
COLLECTION
Bishop DiMarzio invites all in this Extraordinary Year
of Mercy to join him in this year’s Annual Catholic
Charities Collection. The collection takes place at all
Christmas Masses. Please return the special Catholic
Charities envelope from your envelope packet with your
gift. If you did not receive a printed envelope, we ask
you to use your own blank envelope marked for
“Catholic Charities”. Bishop DiMarzio urges all to join
in sharing God’s love with families and children in need
by giving generously to this year’s Catholic Charities
Christmas collection.
