A Message from our Pastor
The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops
(USCCB) has designated this Sunday as Respect Life
Sunday. They remind us that Each of us is a masterpiece of
God’s creation. They write:
Imagine yourself pausing in front of a design of great
beauty. Your soul quiets and is filled with wonder and
awe.
If art, created by man, can evoke such a response
within us, how much more is the same wonder,
reverence and respect due to each person we encounter,
who was handcrafted by the very God who spoke the
world into being?
Now think of an artist stepping back from a great work
of art and admiring his or her creation.
When God created each of us, He did so with precision
and purpose, and He looks on each of us with love that
cannot be outdone in intensity or tenderness.
Moreover, the Lord invites each of us to behold
ourselves and each other with the same wonder and
awe.
No matter how the world might view us or others, let us
treat each person as the masterpiece that he or she is.
Pope Francis tells us, in his Day for Life greeting:
“Even the weakest and most vulnerable, the sick, the
old, the unborn and the poor, are masterpieces of God’s
creation, made in his own image, destined to live
forever, and deserving of the utmost reverence and
respect.”

Let us reflect today on the sacredness of human life,
whether in the womb or the elderly who are frail and in
need of care. We, as a Church and as individuals, speak
about why abortion and euthanasia are wrong, because of
seeing that God is the Creator of human life. We invite
anyone who has participated in an abortion or so-called
“mercy killing”, to seek God’s forgiveness by seeing a
priest for the Sacrament of Penance, so that the burden you
carry may be lifted. Let us assist our brothers and sisters
who are in need, so that we may see them as the
masterpieces of God.

Father Lee Roos
Please consider a scheduled hour of Eucharistic
Adoration as a way to deepen your prayer life. Young
adults, can you make a commitment to one of these
mostly night-time hours?
Question of the Week: Does the “peace of God that
surpasses all understanding” describe the life that pulses
through my heart these days? In other words, where do I
recognize myself in today’s parable?
We must have at least two people present at each hour at
which the Blessed Sacrament is exposed in the monstrance. In
particular, we have needs for adorers at the following times:
Mondays from 12:00am-1:00am and Wednesday mornings
from 10:00-11:00am. Contact Aime at (703) 392-5260 or
[email protected] for further information.

Pastoral Care Needs

Jesus, Mary and Joseph,
in you we contemplate
the splendor of true love,
to you we turn with trust.
Holy Family of Nazareth,
grant that our families too
may be places of communion and prayer,
authentic schools of the Gospel
and small domestic Churches.
Holy Family of Nazareth,
may families never again
experience violence, rejection and division:
may all who have been hurt or scandalized
find ready comfort and healing.
Holy Family of Nazareth,
may the approaching Synod of Bishops
make us once more mindful
of the sacredness and inviolability of
the family,
and its beauty in God’s plan.
Jesus, Mary and Joseph,
graciously hear our prayer.
Amen.

St. Vincent de Paul Society
The Poor Boxes located at each exit of the church invite you
to participate in Our Lord's response to "the cries of the poor."
During the month of August, the St. Vincent de Paul Society
at All Saints has enabled 80 of our neighbors to avoid
eviction, keep or restore electric service, find shelter when
homeless, obtain necessary medication, find food for their
families and get gas for their car to get to work. It is only
through the generosity of the parishioners at All Saints that
our St. Vincent de Paul Society can respond to these desperate
calls for assistance. To learn more about the St. Vincent de
Paul Society, please call 703-626-1833 or 571-264-5750.

RCIA / RCIC Sponsors
Christian Initiation (RCIA/RCIC) is the comprehensive process
for bringing adults and young people into the Church. After a
period of Inquiry, those committed to becoming full members
meet regularly for instruction and also a gradual introduction to
our way of living our faith, through liturgical rites and the regular
experiences of prayer and a caring community. Preparation
continues until the Great Easter Vigil when the Sacraments of
Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist) are received.
Every adult and youth inquirer needs a sponsor. As a
representative of the faith community, the sponsor is a
companion on the journey to full membership. Sponsors attend
the weekly sessions, days of prayer and participate in the
liturgical rites. Sponsors offer advice and encouragement and
grow together with their inquirer as they share the various
experiences of the meeting: learning, sharing and growing in
prayer.
First time AND returning Sponsors will meet on Thursday,
October 16th AND Thursday, October 30th in the Father Kelley
Hall (7:30pm-9:00pm). In November, after a day of prayer,
preparation and reflection, sponsors begin attending the weekly
sessions. There are many adults and young people who do not
have someone in their lives to make that commitment. Won’t
you share your faith experience with someone who wishes to join
the Church but has no one to journey with him? Need more
information? Please call 703-393-2159.

Bethany Food Pantry
The Pantry, located in the Parish Activities Center, is currently
providing assistance to nearly 350 families in the Manassas
community. It is open to serve clients on Tuesday evenings and
Friday mornings. The average family receives 26lbs of food
every 2 weeks, providing clients with more nutritional meals for
their families. With this in mind, donations of high nutritional
value are needed. So that we can best serve those in need, the
Bethany Food Pantry is collecting donations of non-perishable
food items from the parishioners of All Saints Church.
At this time we are especially in need of the following:
Rice / beans / oatmeal and cold cereal / corn flour & white flour /
canned chicken and tuna / peanut butter / potatoes / fruit / pasta
sauce / baking and pancake mix
Dairy and meat products, as well as fresh produce, are always in
high demand. If your donation requires cold storage, please
contact Vickie Taylor at 703-368-4500 to schedule a drop off.
Your non-perishable donations to the pantry can be left in one of
the wooden bins located near each door of the church or call so
that we can best accommodate the delivery. If you know of
someone we can help, please let them know that the Bethany
Food Pantry is here to help. If you would like to volunteer (Mon,
Tues, Thurs, Fri), please contact Vickie at the above number.
Thanks for your continued support.

Imagínate deteniéndote ante un diseño de gran
belleza.
nosotros mismos y a contemplarnos mutuamente
con la misma maravilla y asombro.
